Body wraps are designed to detoxify, reduce weight by cutting water retention and moisturizing the skin. Technicians apply seaweed, mineral-rich mud or other products then wrap the body tightly in a large sheet, blanket or Mylar covering.
Typical costs:
Fees range $80-$150 for 45 minutes and $100-$200 for 60 minutes. Rates are highest at spas that use exotic Dead Sea seaweed or algae and fine linens for the wrap.
A light sugar or salt scrub is applied to the body to exfoliate pores and remove dead skin. Then a mask of herbs, seaweed or conditioners is applied to the whole body from the neck down. Aromatic oils are often incorporated into the mask for relaxation.
Customers are wrapped tightly in the warm blanket or sheet for an average of 20 to 40 minutes. During that period, elements in the mask work with the heat of the wrap to draw toxins out and reduce overall weight through perspiration.
Most technicians leave the room during the time you are wrapped, but higher priced services often include a scalp massage.
Following the treatment, customers take a shower or are rinsed off by the technician while lying down. Afterwards, technicians typically apply a layer of lotion or cream to lock in moisture.
Additional costs:
Gratuity of 15 to 20 percent is customary for most spa services.
