Drug or Alcohol Testing Cost - Buyer Experiences and Price Information

I have been going to my pain management doctor for over a year now and have had the same insurance, BCBS of Texas and have been tested multiple times. Never once have I received a bill until now, and it was for my pee test done in December. They are saying I owe $1,874.88. How can this happen and why would they pick to charge me for just the one, when I have had this same test done mulitiple times throughout the year. I have never heard of this place either and am guessing my doctor only used them for that one pee test. It is outrageous and something needs to be done about it. Our doctors should not use any lab that our insurance does not pay and how can any pee test cost that much?? I do not have the money for this...who would! How can we get our pain meds if we are going to get charged for outrageous pee test fees!

Had a couple surgeries and the doctor just wanted to confirm that the prescriptions were not being abused?!?! I understand this might be protocol. However, I had not asked him for any pain meds in more than a month. I have a high pain tolerance. Southwest is a rip off! Thank God my doctors office sees this as a rip off like me. They are going to do what they can to fix it.

I just received a bill for $4921.00 that my insurance company was billed by Orbit Labs for a $25 drug test. This has got to stop!

Live in Tx, needed urine test for migraine medicine as it is a scheduled drug. Was not given information on what lab my sample was sent to and the Dr. sent to an out of network lab. My insurance will pay for about 1400.00, but the lab charged me over $6000 and expect me to pay the balance. After I called them they sent a form for me to sign saying I understand the lab might be out of network and that I understand I will be responsible for costs not covered. I obviously did not sign, am trying to get comparative costs...Crazy

I went to my in network pain management doctor who wanted to do a urine test on me. The doctor's office, for dome inexplicable reason sent it to an out of network lab. If that wasn't bad enough, he went high tech and ordered 16 drugs to be tested for. Many of them antidepressants that I have never been prescribed nor taken. I belive this should be investigated. These guys will steal you blind and leave you in more pain than you came to them in.

My doctor required me to take a drug test the last time I went in for my ADHD prescription, which seemed reasonably given the level of abuse with such drugs. What was not reasonable, however, was the cost. My doctor charged me $140 for collecting my urine, which at that cost I assumed was the total cost of the test. Then, much to my surprise, last week, I get a bill from Quest for $687. $687, yes, you read that correctly. It is nothing more than extortion and exploitation. I did not consent to paying that nor was I even informed my test would sent out and wasn't being tested in house.

My Dr Who's in network sent a urine sample to an out of network laboratory. BCBS will pay zero. 29 individual lab tests ranging from $25.00 to $750.00 each. The good news is that I have a clean bill of health and negative results. The bad news is I owe $5,295.00 for unnecessary tests.

This test was done in our Dr.'s office and sent through their lab. Our Ins. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Paid $Zero.... They classified it as "Mental Health (which we dont have coverage for), and they discounted it ZERO. We had no earthly idea that this test was so outrageously high. When we called Quest they said that's the cost...When we asked what BCBSTX pays they refused to answer. When we asked what the average cost Out of Pocket or Cash pay client pays they would not tell us. My husband has had CT Brain Scans with contrast that cost less than this simple urine test for drugs. I will NEVER... EVER use this lab. I will ask prior to ANY Testing Who is the Processor/company is at that Dr's office...If it is Quest...that test is getting done somewhere else and only after I get competitive pricing confirmation first. Our nation is collapsing under the weight of these absolutely unbelievable medical testing and health costs. I am willing to pay for services, this is crazy.

My Dr Who's in network sent sample to an out of network lab.insurance is only paying $525. Now they want me to pay $1230 for a mandatory drug screen. I work six weeks to bring that home. Have fun opening my son's birthday presents you crooked bastards

I been going to a pain clinic and each month my insurance is billed 8,000.00 to 15,000.00 a month for a simple urine test . This is why our insurance is so high . I have been raising heck over this .

Pain management urine test started at $3200 took an automatic discount of 1700 insurance paid 650 and saying I owe $450 for a drug test. Y can they charge this

My isn covers all my visits and everything else! But does it really cost 80 each visit for a saliva test? Somehow I think that's odd when ins covered everything else!

Dr. Office wanted urine for drug tests never saying anything about cost. Is this a mistake? Seems like this can't be right insurance already paid some of it and I am left with balance of $1,460.00. Wasn't told what lab they would be using and left me the impression that they would test at each visit.

My Dr. required this test on my first time visit. Is this a violation of my constitutional rights to privacy? Whats next my genes? This is out of control. The price is over the top.

Received bill for $3,000 for a urine drug screen required test prior to RX for pain meds pending surgery, Was never notified of price !!!

I just recieved a bill from Ameritox from a urine drug test. Im assuming its for 14 different drugs but not sure. The codes on the bill make no sense and 704 $ seems crazy.
