Type of Frame: metalType of Lenses: unsure

My 76 year old mother was charged $1,800 by a local optician for her glasses. Unless they were gold with a few diamonds thrown in (which they weren't) I can't see how that amount is justified. She doesn't have significant eyesight issues.

New presciption - new glasses
Amount: $606.00
Posted by: Joyonfire in Virginia Beach, VA.Posted: May 21st, 2015 01:05PM
Type of Frame: PlasticType of Lenses: Progressive, Trivex, anti-glare
Store: Beach Eye Care
I had my eyes examined here and also purchased a pair of glasses here.
I kept asking the sales clerk about the cost of different items (ie the frames, the anti-glare) and she never gave me a straight answer. It was like talking to a used car salesperson.
Side note: Discovered I cannot use the polycarbonate lens. I had to have Trivex lens, so, that was about $50 more than the polycarbonate lens, no complaints about being able to see!
Can anyone in Virginia Beach, suggest where I can I find glasses cheaper than $606?

I've not ever had the benefit of terrible eyes. Now at age 48 the quote I got was OUTRAGEOUS. I bought readers....I've been blessed with wonderful eyesight until now. Save your money and buy some quality readers, I've since gone on line and bought readers of a variety of color choices and styles for approx. 12 each. 580.00 with bells and whistles, no thanks, my grandchildren like to investigate my purse and I prefer to put my money toward other things. I wonder how dentists and Optometrists stay in business with these costs?

Age 78 post cataract extraction with intraocular lens implant resulting in 20/20 distant vision but need for magnification for computer use (top lens) and for reading (bottom lens). Chose frames (can see frames on your face) and sent professional prescription for lenses via internet. Total cost approximately $80 plus small shipping charge but was able to get 20% discount coupon. Very satisfied.
