I haven't got my retaIner yet. But my friend has. Yes it is riduculous to pay 3000 for a retainer. They are only worth around 300- 500 dollars.

Retainers
Amount: $0.00

Hello
I had my orthodontics removed from my teeth last year. I was supplied with an Retainer to keep my teeth in position after the treatment. I broke my retainer 3 times now, and my doctor didn't charge me a fee. Its been almost a year now, and my 3rd retainer had been crushed while on holiday. To get my forth retainer will i be charged by the NHS or will it be free again. i phoned up my orthodontist and the doctor said i may need to pay.
Also are orthodontists free until the age of 18? or 19 as long as you are in full time education.

I need braces and a retainer, but my orthodontist's office doesnt take welfare. He said that my parents(divorced) would have to pay roughly 3,875 dollars to cover the whole thing. that would be a total 7,750 dollars roughly. Is this a rip off??

Cost of Lost Retainers
Amount: $500.00
Posted by: Casey in Barnstable, MA.Posted: May 3rd, 2010 04:05PM
My son lost his retainers the very NEXT day- now we have to pay 500.00 for the lower and top retainers. The material isn't that expensive! These cost more than my new TV. or the cost of Airline tickets for two people, or how about an entire 40 hr. a week paycheck! This cost is way too much money. If you can, ask for an extra pair to be made. It really can't be that difficult to make these. We just allow ourselves to be charged an exuberant amount.

Top and Bottom Retainers
Amount: $500.00
Posted by: leasha in San Diego, CA.Posted: December 9th, 2009 08:12PM
Had braces 15 yrs ago, had permanant top and bottom retainer, but my teeth started shifting agin, so I was initially told my insurance would cover ortho. I went in and bascially as they were taking off my old bottom retainer, they told me it would be $500 for both top and bottom new ones. Then as I went back for a reatiner fitting and the Dr. is now telling me that I need a permanant on top. Didn't I just pay $500 to take the permanent off???

I had to get a quote just this week for my flex spending account. My insurance (compbenefits) has a co-payment of $450 for a retainer. My doctor will order a second complimentary retainer for $300. So the total will be $750.

We bought my daughter a retainer insurance would not cover and it came out every month. It did however help some, but now it is time to get the braces and they are telling me 4-6 thousand. How much is too much. We see kids with braces everyday- how are these parents affording this?

corrective retainers
Amount: $5,000.00
Posted by: a user in Delaware, OH.Posted: May 27th, 2009 01:05PM
Haven't gotten the treatment yet but had braces for 2 years and never wore my original retainer. Now it is 8 years later and my teeth have shifted mildly. I visited an orthodontist today and he told me I'd need a series of 3 corrective retainers to shift my teeth and then perminant ones to keep them there. He told me I'd have 3 to 6 months of total treatment...$5,000 seems SO rediculous for that! My insurance does not cover orthodontics!

My daughters braces and retainers were all inclusive to the total fee of $5000.00. Our insurance would of covered it, but they wanted her to wait another year before starting braces.
