Had a glass bottle shattered over my head. Received ambulance ride to ER, received 8 staples upon arrival, and 3 more an hour later. Doctor scheduled a CT Scan, I denied CT Scan. Bill for hospital ER was $2073, bill from Doctor was $1103. I saw the Doctor twice, once when he visited me when I arrived, and once when I signed the waiver for not getting the CT Scan. $1103 for less than 3 minutes of conversation, (the doctor didn't even administer the stitches) no topical ointments, no analgesics and no anesthetics. Was conscious during entire treatment. Likewise, was supposed to be taken to a Veteran Affairs local hospital instead of Ocala Regional. |

The insurance company UHC only approved around $900, it part of the Game and its between the hospital and the Insurance company. The insurance paid less than $600 and I have to pay $315. No sane mind will understand this game of poker. I am unhappy mostly because in the Emergenecy Room I had to wait for 4+ hours before the doctor could come and stich my 3 year old's skin . And this is what they call emergency service. I wish no one( kids adults) has to ever go to the emergency room . Sugestion to all is Please play safe and avoid blood, pain and the terror of seeing kids in blood. |

Managed to get a 2cm puncture wound in my calf. It took a couple of hours to get 3 stitches. The wound got infected and opened up again 2 weeks later. (so I ended up with a couple of urgent care visits too). From the ER visit my insurance was originally billed $2000, but the insurance discount brought it down to $1100. I had a $150 ER copay and insurance did the rest. Seeing what others have been charged, I guess this was more reasonable than I had previously thought. However, the stitches were not done very well, so will just go to urgent care next time. |

Had a mild finger cut (not very deep about 1.5 inches), 5 or 6 stitches applied. First the bill was said to be around $780, about 10 days later it was recalculated to become $415 as seen on my insurer's website (why I didn't ask) of which I only had to pay 280.24 because the insurer has some type of a discount agreement. I then also received a bill from Patient First in the amount of $18.24. To my question why they could not include this into the bill they sent to my insurance they answered "because my deductible was not meant" which makes no sense to me. Overall the total price at the end was adequate but I find the multiple cost adjustments rather weird. Haven't tried them but alternative urgent care facilities like "MD Express" or "In & Out Medical Center" in the area may be a better alternative in terms of the cost consistency. |

I thought 400.00 was high until reading the other comments! If your employer offers off the job accident insurance get it! They are paying for it and I think it costs me about $2.00 a week |

Hoping to get the Out of pocket reduced($1160..but we pay over $400 month for health insurance)reduced but because I actually work for a living and do not mooch off of the government I doubt I will get any assistance. Yesterday evening(Approx 8pm est) I was out fishing in a local spot on the flats, wading & have NEVER needed foot protection before. Wound up stepping on something causing an approx 1/8th to 1/4th inch laceration right underneathish my pinky toe. Didnt know how deep it was until i got back to shore and man, whatever i stepped on got me good. Luckily someone had a first aid kit in their vehicle & a bottle of fresh water to clean all the sand/mud off. Called my dr's office first thing today, explained what the wound looked like/ how it occured & they opened up a spot for me immediately. As soon as i stepped foot into the office, i was rushed back to their minor surgical area. I mustof been in & out within 15-20 minutes total. Fully cleaned, disinfected, 2-3 hits of lidocaine, 2 sutures & fully dressed. All for a WHOPPING TOTAL of 100 bucks. Mind you, its 85.00 to even see him before you're examined. Taking that into consideration, I paid 15 bucks to have my foot fixed up. Im beyond happy |

My son had a fish hook stuck in his hand. Went to the ER at Loudoun Hospital - they cut the hook and a piece went into his hand - the hand specialist/plastic surgeon sent a bill for $41,500 - I told them this was ridiculous - their office is telling me this is usual and customary - which is insane. This is ON TOP OF THE OTHER CHARGES FROM THE HOSPITAL. Stupid part is the insurance paid their 80% of this bill w/out question. |

I got cut on my knuckle and it was immediately clear that it would need stitches because of the placement on my hand. It would reopen with every finger movement. I wanted to go to an urgent care clinic but it was Sunday night so I had no choice but the ER. We have 2 traditional hospitals in town but a new place has recently opened that is a 24 hour full service ER. I have to say the care was quick as I was the only one there. I think every doctor and nurse in the building came to check out my cut because they were bored. Now after getting the bill I wonder if they charged more for each person that entered the room. I didn't expect it to be cheap but I thought not cheap would be somewhere in the 800-1200 dollar range, certainly not 3200!! I have a high deductible health plan and that will knock 600 off of the 2250 billed for the facility. But, before they will pay anything on the 950 fee for the doctor I have to fill out paperwork that says it wasn't a pre-existing condition. |

Fingertip laceration. Was Charged $1047 to walk in to the ER...called a level 4 visit. Doctor and nurse kept coming and going; would be in the room for 2 minutes, then gone for 30, so the visit took forever. Every time the doctor would get started with us, he would get a phone call and need to leave. I am a veterinarian, and am experienced in all types of crazy laceration repair. This doctor put non-sterile blue nitrile gloves on to suture the wound, was slow as molasses, had to remove sutures after he put them in because they did not appose the wound, and his repair looked mediocre at best. The nurse then put a gauze bandage the size of my fist on the finger (no way that was going to stay on) and gave us prescriptions for antibiotics and pain meds to fill elsewhere. Only injections were a tetanus shot for $100 and Lidocaine $400. On the bill were other charges for drug administration that we never got... another $300 |

Tray Instrument Pack - $73.75
Lac Repair to 2.5.7 - $174.65
ED Level III - Inter (99283) - $683.50
This cost for a 30 minute visit is a bit ridiculous. I called in and the billing lady said $683.50 is the customary price for stepping foot in the emergency room. I can wrap my head around being over charged for the work on the stitches and materials, but a $683.15 charge for stepping in is way too much. |

Seen for a clean cut kitchen knife laceration in the intertriginous area (web) area between my thumb and forefinger. Seen, treated, and sutured by NP. NO doctor in sight or listed on paperwork! Also received (unnecessary, but they insisted)tetanus shot. Service and people were pleasant, but ER was grungy. NP donned huge latex gloves (looked like she was cleaning toilets), touched equipment and papers, bedding, hair, face...then opened the 'sterile' packet and pawed through the sutures, equipment, etc as she repaired the wound. "Flushed' the wound with a syringe, a process that seemed ineffectual. Lidocaine, more than necessary. Placed 4 sutures, one the unraveled later. Sutures never really apposed the laceration. About 4 days later, the wound became red, swollen, draining some pus with skin around the wound moist and friable. Luckily as a health professional, I treated the wound aggressively, cleaning, antibiotic ointment. After 10 days as instructed I removed the sutures. Of course, the wound dehised/separated...and continued to drain for another day or two. The wound had to heal by secondary intention. IT took over three weeks for the wound to completely heal. Received a bill from a doctor who was never seen/consulted/sutured for 800 dollars and an ER charge for 2500. 00 dollars. I have thousand dollars deductible and 100 dollar copay. After insurance 'coverage,' and copay, I owe #325 to the doc (that I never saw), and the hospital (Insurance paid the hospitalabout #700 and hospital gave me an insurance discount) 1,150.
Seems to me, the hospital should take its 1350 and call the case closed! I am appealing both hospital (the amount) and doc fees (the amount and the fact that I was even charged). |

I had 1 stitch put in. I took up space in their precious ER for 1.5 hours.rnLuckily, I have useless Anthem Blue Cross, that entitles me to some discounts that bring the grand total down to: $2913.52. Presumably that is what they would pay if they weren't so useless. However, since I have yet to reach my deductible ($2500, don't even ask me how that works) the hospital has sent the entire bill onto me. rnI'm still contesting this, so who knows... maybe they'll realize how ridiculous they are. They can't charge me for dreaming, can they? |

Dell pediatric likes to seriously over charge for services. They spent 15 minutes and used dermabond on a minor head laceration. Dermabond is 125$ for a single ampule. This should have been about 1000$ tops. The physician had shaky hands and skills were not all that impressive. This same treatment is less at johns hopkins and Children's in dallas and they offer superior care. |

I got a Laceration on my head in a martial arts class, and everyone thought I should go to the ER since I have insurance. Turns out my "insurance" has a $4500 deductible I must cover before any benefits kick in. Anyway less than an hour later I had 7 stitches and was on my way home. Only to receive a $2194.20 bill from the ER and another $757 charge from the doctor. So far no reduction has been offered, but I will keep fighting. |

Laceration to the forehead. The wound was cleaned with Betadine and irrigated copiously and prepped and draped in a sterile manner. The laceration was closed with 6-0 prolene. The laceration was 4cm in length. Dressing was then applied. Codes 12013 for wound repair costing $457 and 99283 for the Evaluation and Management costing $284.
WakeMed Fees:
99283 ER Level III $1332
90471 Immun Administration $166
Disposable Suture Tray $90
Suture Charge/Per Pack $43
Lidocaine 1% W/EPI 20ml $11.79
Bacitracin Oin UD Pack $1.10
90715 DTAP $193.59
Physician Bill Total: $741, offered 20% quick pay discount.
Emergency Room Bill Total: $1837.49, offered 50% quick pay discount.
Review: PA was competent and smooth. Total bill seems excessive. Will wait until the morning to get stitches next time. $359.59 total for tetanus shot is aggravating. Less than $100 at Walgreens or CVS. I would pay $500 cash for this procedure without complaint. |

Fell from bike and got two cuts near my elbow. Had 6 stitches in total (4+2). The service was okay. They cleaned the wound right away and I had to wait 40 min for the doctor to come and do the stitching which took him around 15min.
I had insurance but still have to pay $500. Since it was my first encounter with emergency rooms in US, I thought I was being ripped off. But now I see that this is typical in US! |

Two-inch laceration down to the subcutaneous fat on the front of the leg, about a centimetre away from the tibia (shinbone). Waited about two hours in the waiting room (triage after the first hour, then sent back to waiting room). Waited another half-hour after being admitted to the examination room. Received local anaesthaesia with shots, then had sutures and staples. A later visit to the ER to get an infection checked out added $343. After that, I visited a personal provider. |

We waited in the ER waiting room for about 35 mins. Waited in the patient room for about 20 minutes after nurse asked us a few questions and entered history into computer. The doctor then came in and looked at it for about 2 mins. We then waited another 10 minutes. Doctor then spent less than 5 mins putting in 2 staples. Only other thing he did was clean the wound with a wipe and alcohol. |

I was cut open on my forehead by the scope on a gun. I didnt want to the ER but Im a woman and was worried about scarring. They made me wait in an empty lobby for an hour then in the room for 45min. After that the doctorsaw me for about 15 min. He simply wiped my head with an alcohol wipe and put some adhesive over the wound. I cant believd they want $1500. My insurance paid some but I owe $780. Im trying to fight this. How do I start? Can a lawyer help or are hospitals just able to victimize people? |
