For this neck of the woods it is above average but well worth, the care is phenomenal, the work excellent. My daughter is getting braces at this office. It's a one stop dental mall! ;) No xrays taken.Dr. Lee Zuidema, DDS

SRP's (deep cleaning)
Amount: $388.00
Posted by: RDH in Las Vegas, NV.Posted: October 28th, 2010 08:10PM
The cost of deep cleanings have actually come down. I have been a dental hygienist for almost 30 years with a bachelor's degree in this field and every office I work in seems to charge less and less for the same treatment. Five years ago we charged $250/quad. Two years ago it was $162/quad. Now we charge $97/quad for the exact same work! Seems to me it's the only profession that has changed with the economical times and the saturation of the field.

Scaling, Deep Cleaning
Amount: $1,083.00
Posted by: Patricia Scott in Annapolis, MD.Posted: October 27th, 2010 09:10AM
Type: Periodental gum disease
I felt rail-roaded into spending this cash at an Annapolis, MD dentist office. I hadn't been to a dentist in five years. I had one pocket measured at 7 and one pocket measured at 6. The rest were 2's and 3's. I originally went into the office to get a broken moler looked at. This dentist told me I would need a root canal or tooth extraction, but their office didn't do those procedures. Why would this dentist let me come in to begin with when they knew my complaint and they knew they wouldn't be able to help me?

Deep Cleaning/Scaling Root Planing/Arestin
Amount: $755.00
Posted by: Clean Teeth in Encino, CA.Posted: September 2nd, 2010 11:09AM
Type: Cleaning/SRP/Arestin/Xrays
I have a dental HMO from my employer, Anthem Blue Cross. Was not expecting to pay this much. But after reading some of the other posts its very legitimate. Have not been to a dentist in 3 years and was told I needed deep cleaning/ scaling and root planing. Had it done in 2 visits just finished the last one. Was not bad at all. The Arestin antibiotic was needed in 5 areas due to pockets measuring over 5mm in depth. I was a little hesitant about this new drug I had never heard of and supposedly not covered by insurance. They charged me $80 for each pocket and I had 5. The Xrays were covered by insurance and the deep cleaning was $360 with the insurance coverage. The Arestin is probably not covered by insurance. But I feel it is completely worth it. After having the first treatment a few days later I noticed how quickly I was healing. You only get one set of healthy teeth and I felt this was well worth the cost considering how expensive others have paid and the price tag with no insurance, yikes!

I have to contact my dentist receptionist. At first, I was told it was going to be 75.00 back in April of 2010. When I went two days ago, I didnt even check the charge and she charged me 95.00 just for general cleaning??? I will call. She said next time my teeth cleaning will be covered by my insurance. I need to go to the dentist 4 times a year because of the condition of my teeth. My contract with delta dental only covers 2 cleanings a year! What is next?

Had my teeth cleaned, 4 bitewing x-rays, and minor dental exam. Last year it was $140.00, this year $210.00. I complained about it and they offered a 10% discount for next 6 months cleaning. I still think even a $50.00 increase is prohibitive and I will be looking.

Routine exam, xray and cleaning
Amount: $89.00
Posted by: R Carter in New Boston, MI.Posted: July 12th, 2010 09:07AM
The procedure lasted about 45 minutes and included cleaning, cancer screening, x-rays and quick exam by the dentist. I got an ad in my local sales paper for a dentist in the area offering this price for new patients. Only one ad can be used per household so my husband could not take advantage. Great services and polite staff. Dentist answered all my questions afterwards and no judgment for not flossing every day like I have received in the past from other dentists. I have used sales specials like this before and been happy with results. I take good care of my teeth since I don't have dental insurance (brush 2x per day flossing most of the time, etc). Check for specials for new patients in local ads by dentists to save a bundle if you don't have dental insurance. A cousin of mine is a dentist (I cannot afford him though) and he said that if you take great care of your teeth and do not have other health issues, you really only need the routine cleaning, xrays and exam once a year not every 6 months.

We argued over the price and had the extra "exam fee" of $80 removed. Had never heard of an exam fee over and above a $135 cleaning fee, $30 X-ray fee, and $20 extra charge for "scaling.? When they tacked on the additional $80 for the Dentist's exam we started questioning things and the holes just coming out - finally the dentist agreed the $80 fee could be taken off - if they would have just given me the 5% cash discount promised on their signs I would of shut up earlier - these medical offices and there price structures are just crazy.

I SAVED MY TEETH TODAY!! :)
Amount: $632.00
Posted by: Beautiful teeth! :) in Upland, CA.Posted: May 29th, 2010 03:05AM
Type: Deep Cleaning
I paid $632 today for deep cleaning four quadrants, 10+ X-rays, teeth polishing, scaling and root planing, and basic cleaning (they also made me sign up for dental insurance even though I am unemployed--it cost $111; but they said my total bill would be $1200 if I didn't sign up for it). I went in with a coupon, thinking I'd only pay $32 for a dental exam, cleaning, and X-rays. Boy, was I wrong! But I haven't been to the dentist in 10 YEARS!! So, I was in the very early stages of periodontal/gum disease, with lots of plaque, tartar, and calculus build-up (but no cavities--YAY!). Thus, I think the money was worth it to save my teeth! I noticed a HUGE difference immediately--so much cleaner, and smoother, without all that extra gunk on the inner mouth/tongue side of the tooth. HOORAY!!:)

American dentists are all ripoff scumbags
Amount: $0.00

Here's a good one, my scumbag dentist in Santa Monica tells me I need a root canal,ok fine so how much? $2500, what the F___K! That was the last time I saw him, what I did do is while I was on vacation about 2 months later I went and had it done by the top dentist in the Philippines, this guy went to dental school at UCLA he's Canadian Chinese and decided his talents would be of more use in the Philippines where he has built one the top practices in Manila, his facilities are way more modern then my ex dentist and his whole practice was just much more professional and by the way my root canal, which took around 3 hrs of total work time, 1 visit to do the root canal with a temp cap, 2 hrs, and one week on antibiotics and then a visit for 1 hr to make sure there was no infection and put on a permanent cap, $250 dollars, this is just a small example of how, along with the rest of our F___D up health system our scumbag dentists are just as bad as our scumbag thieving bankers!

I brought my 10 yr old daughter to Scheiber and Bernstein today. She was in the chair for 30 minutes and it was a routine cleaning and it cost $145.00! I like the new office and service is good but now that I've been unemployed so long I'll be looking for a dentist that I can can afford. But, if money is not an issue for you then I do recommend them. Good luck!

Looking at the other entries it seams like I got a great deal, I received deep cleaning/scaling/anesthesia the works...I had very deep pockets in my lower middle front teeth, 6mm or more and lots of plaque. For years. But I did all 4 quadrants split in two visits. My gosh I am glad i did it! My lower center front teeth were the worst and im sitll recovering hoping that my gums grow quickly around where the cleaning took place.

A further item on bill
Amount: $1,000.00
Posted by: sticker shock in Washingtons, DC.Posted: April 7th, 2010 09:04PM
Can you suggest a resource through which for me to understand a certain part of my bill, so that I may be reassured my dentist is not overcharging?

My bill has (expected) costs for scaling ($300 per quadrant), but also an extra fee of $700 for "local deliv antimicrb ag-th B/R".

That extra $700 seems to be for antibiotic medicine, and it seems strangely high.

Deep Cleaning (Scaling & Planing)
Amount: $638.00
Posted by: Kathy's Teeth in Clarksville, TN.Posted: April 1st, 2010 01:04PM
Place: All Smiles Family Dentisty,
Clarksville, TN

Hadn't gone to see my dentist in about 5 years and was told I needed to get a deep cleaning done which I completely agreed with since I had visible tartar buildup on my bottom front teeth and my gums were starting to recede. They broke my appts. up into 2 quadrants, one today and one tomorrow for each side of my mouth.

I'm 25 years old and I don't have any dental insurance, but for everything total, it costs $638 dollars. Great dentist and I can vouch since I started going there 15 years ago (minus the 5 I did nothing! LoL)

I had my teeth cleaned for free at a Dental Hygienist school in San Francisco, CA. I qualified for free service because I was admitted as a "case" for study for the students; I also qualified for other discounted services. They did an excellent job. Look 'em up if you live in the Bay Area.

Deep cleaning
Amount: $420.00
Posted by: Mike Thorson in Avon, IN.Posted: January 26th, 2010 04:01PM
Type: All four quadrants
I had great dental care as child but since turning 21 I have been to the dentist 4 times. Now at 36 I went to the dentist and all my gums were measured for pocket depth. In all four corners of my mouth there were 5mm pockets with one corner being 6mm. They quoted me $400 to do the cleaning that I though I was paying $49 for. It was $100 for the bad corner and $50 for the other three plus $100 for 2 shots of arestin in the bad corner.
The dentist numbed all four corners and it took the girl a full hour to do the deep cleaning. She deep cleaned my front teeth at no extra charge. She asked how long it had been since I quite smoking, I said 3 years. She was amazed that the tarter/plaque belowe my gums was Tobacco stained. She then spent another 1/2 hour flossing and doing a normal cleaning with a pick. Then she polished and did a floride treatment.
I am very very happy with what was done except for the arestine. I understand why arestine is used. (they cant physically clean deeper than 5mm and the arestine gets into the 6mm pockets and kills the bacteria. I just dont think that is worth $47 a shot. Anything deeper than 6mm they cut open your gums to gain access for cleaning. That is when you get above $1000.
Bottom line If I didnt goto Dental plan.com and pay $79 for a dental plan they would of charged me $800 for this procedure. So make sure you look into the dental plans. Its not insurance but a plan that give you set prices.
Next week Im having a crown put on for $600 normal cost 950.

Periodental cleaning 4 quadrants
Amount: $1,778.00
Posted by: Mike Desabrais in westspringfield, MA.Posted: January 5th, 2010 11:01AM
Type: RIPOFF
Aspen Dental quoted me $2032.00 and were "discounting the service to $1778.00. The cleanings would happen in two visits lasting about an hour with one follow up visit to make sure they didn't screw up, but charge you anyway? ($319)

After I left it felt like the experience I had recently in the auto dealer finance department. I didn't buy there either. High pressure selling was the game...kept me there 2.5 hours!

Beware of "dental plans" that allow you to have X-rays and an exam for $10(the exam lasted about 2 minutes). You will pay for them with the services they try to sell you.

Deep Cleaning 2 Teeth
Amount: $800.00
Posted by: Stevepalm in Cranston, RI.Posted: January 4th, 2010 05:01PM
I recently had 2 teeth deep cleaned. The procedure was very easy for me and the dentist and took 45 minutes. I was told upfront it would cost $800.00 but it didn't mean much since I had never had the procedure done before. I now feel like I was abused. Be sure to get 2 or 3 opinions. I still owe $200.00 and I'm thinking of not paying any more. Everything I read, suggests
I was abusively overcharged.

Adult prophylaxis, periodic oral exam, and bitewings x-rays (4 films) would have costed $130, $75, and $65. General dentist accepts my dental insurance plan, they got ~93% of amount and dental insurance co magically got 7% discount. Since this was every 6 months and preventive procedure, it's free for me (unless I use up my maximum yearly $benefits.)

$160.00 per quadrant! I thought this was outrageously expensive. I had deep cleaning 2 years ago before I moved to Bakersfield from Valencia. Now they want me to go back every 4 months. I don't have dental insurance. I paid $159 (family) for their discount dental plan just to lower the price a bit.
