Fees per chiropractic session average $65 for a general vertebrae adjustment, according to a recent survey in Chiropractic Economics magazine.
Sessions can range from $34 to $106 per session depending on where you live, how many regions of the spine a chiropractor services and whether exams are required.
Average fees are highest in the South, around $70 per session, and lowest in the Midwest, at $60. New patients should expect to pay slightly more on their first visit, from $61 to $161, because an overall health consultation is usually required. Chiropractors charge additional fees for X-rays, which can range from $44 to $159.
Most health insurance plans cover some level of chiropractic care, and treatment is also a tax-deductible medical expense, according to the American Chiropractic Association (ACA). Many chiropractors accept insurance or payment plans.
What should be included:
The cost of most general chiropractic sessions includes an adjustment of the vertebrae. Using their hands and arms, doctors apply force to the back and neck to realign joints and relieve pressure or pain, according to the ACA.
The length and frequency of sessions depends on the severity of a patient's need. Patients sometimes experience a brief period of soreness after an adjustment, which generally goes away within a day or two.
Additional costs:
Some chiropractors offer additional services, or modalities, to treat chronic ailments and reduce tension. In a recent survey of 365 chiropractors, around 48 percent said they offer massage and 15 percent offer acupuncture, according to Chiropractic Economics.
Chiropractors charge an average of $42 for a massage therapy session, where they apply pressure to the body's muscles and soft tissue.
Acupuncture is the ancient Chinese practice of inserting needles into the body's pressure points to manipulate its energy. Acupuncturists charge $100 to $150 for an initial visit, which generally includes a consultation, and around $65 for follow-up visits.
Discounts:
Doctors who operate cash-only practices typically charge less, an average of $57 per session, because they are not concerned about what percentage of reimbursement they will receive from insurance companies, according to the Chiropractic Economics survey.
Chiropractors who have a single practice typically charge less, around $63 per session, as opposed to doctors who work in a medical group and charge an average of $70.
Shopping for a chiropractor:
The first step is finding the right doctor. Ask relatives or friends for a recommendation. The American Chiropractic Association offers a directory of members.

Hate to say, there are many scams with chiropractors. Even if your insurance covers chiropractic and it seems to be cheaper than paying an out of network provider, do your homework- not always the case, especially if the insurer decides not to pay and you are left with the bill. If you are not feeling results within a reasonable amount of time, ask questions and consult other DC's. Why would you continue to see a practitioner if you weren't getting better? Reputable chiropractors offer reasonable fees, clear treatment plans, and RESULTS. They aren't the ones driving the fancy cars. You have choices... don't get taken for a ride.

Firm or Practice: Touch Healing Arts
I almost quit going to chiropractors in the Benton County area due to the lack of concern many of them showed about my situation. I felt like I was being sold something each time I went in. Some want a $2500 "Case Fee" up front. Thankfully, my massage therapist recommended Dr. Wil McCauley of Touch Healing Arts. Pain-free and pleased to tell you about it!!!
I have fybromylagia and was referred to a chiropractor that is trained in acupuncture. I am now off several medications. My arthritis in my hands does not hurt anymore, my knotted up shoulder, back and neck are very loose and the pain is so much better. I go now once a month to maintain and also I get acupuncture to loose weight and have gone down two sizez in three months. It just really curves your appetite with no side effects. I am now able to workout at the gym again.
I have been suffering from Headaches for many years now and have been to many different Chiropractors for this problem. Most of the Chiropractors I have been to seem to be in such a hurry, and I maybe got 2 minutes with the doctor before he moved on to his next patient. Each visit with Dr Casey lasts anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes depending how bad I am that day, and he truly cares. Since seeing him my headaches have improved a TON!!! If you live in or around the Delafield area, I recommend you set up an appointment with Dr Casey!!
What a great experience!! Very friendly staff. was alittle nervous at first but was very knowlegable and explained everything in detail. Also has great massage thereapist which is a bonus. For the cost this place is amazing. Highly recomend it!!!
Firm or Practice: Jenkins Chiropractic and Wellness
Was referred to Jenkins Chiropractic by a close friend who knew of him. I was very impressed with how much better I felt after the first week. I have been to other chiro's before, but for some reason I get SO much more relief with Dr. Jenkins.
My Chiropractic originally charged me $30.00 per session until he found out I had a personal injury claim, then when it was time to settle, he charged me a total of $3,300 for 25 visits. When it should have totaled roughly $800.00. Very pissed off! These is perhaps due to kickbacks.
Firm or Practice: VA Family Chiropractic Health CTR
Ultrasound, heat and stem over charged; $230.00. Plus the receptionist told me one price for massages and my PIP-auto insurance was charged more. The Chiropractor said that he charges more to the insurance company but they don't post their prices. They charged my PIP (auto insurance) $150 for a 45 minute massage which should have been an hours session when I was told it cost $100 which I thought was too high. As soon as I found out I stopped going. Will never return. 12546 Dillingham Square, Woodbridge, VA 22192

I found this place with a dealfind deal, looking for an hour massage for $29. It also came with the consultation (x-rays, body scans, the works!). I continue care because it feels great! Everyone there is welcoming and informative. I've gone through my 3rd adjustment and I've already learned so much! They are so helpful in explaining why chiropractic care is important, and fixing my spine and letting my nervous system heal itself seemed to be the most important thing to them. They have a special deal right now for people that haven't had chiropractic care before: 30 minute massage and consultation free. They really care. It's located right by Fremont, a few blocks from the Troll. Dr. Nadeem Bajwa is a great guy. He's knowledgeable, charismatic, flexible, and he takes his time to really make sure you've got what you need. I'm glad I've found this place!
Just came across this site wondering why some of my patients complain about my fees. Found out I'm under charging (but happy with the amount) and satified that some people are just cheap and think they deserve free care. Hate reading about DCs overcharging and over treating, but that is not what they teach in Chiro College, but are taught by questionable consultants. I think if any doctor just treat people like they would want, and quit the high pressure sales and pre pay visits they wold find people referring and staying. I really hate hearing some of these stories since I really think chiropractic can help so many people, but people will miss out due to a story about a crook. Just be wary of who you see, stay away from prepays and ask around to others before going. All professions have scam artist, ours is no different, but we also have great doctors as many of the post reflect.
I'm paying out of pocket and out of network a total of 61$. My doctor is submitting items at 85, 60, 50, 50 with an initial total cost to insurance of $245. I'm not really sure what the items are because they aren't very discriptive on the EOB. Reasonable?

I was in an auto accident and I have been to over 25 visits to this clinic.i receive primary care from the va as im a service connected disabled veteran so thays where I had to go to get some relief!(methocarbamol n tylenol 3) my stomach is weak to strong substance.anyhow the chiro has billed over 10k to my insurance and paid $5857.46 do far.ive said enough! I live 20 miles from their friggin office and when I go in they hurt me.i stopped using the traction table after the 5th or 6th visit b/c it greatly exacerbated my lower spine pain to downright intolerable.yet.... Oh you huessed it readers, its on the bill! Along with electro thrapy and hot or cold pack! Things I havent used in a month of sundays! Come on. Im just more than a little upset.and my lawyer says...i wont be left holding the bill... Thats WHY we buy pip..ummm I may look clear.but I can see through this!what do I do? Any advice? These guys are obviously all in some crap tpgether from the lawyers to the docs..its a mess!
At first I was a little doubtful because of how young this guy was. I actually thought he was the doctor's son until he introduced himself. But after we sat down he started asking me A LOT of questions and his nurse or whatever her title is kept writing on a piece of paper. She must have been new because he kept explaining things to her about why certain answer I gave were important. After that he told me what was wrong with me and that he could fix it in about 6 visits if I promised to do some exercises at home that he gave me. 4 visits in and my neck doesn't hurt at all, and that's the first time since 2008. What really surprised me is how he knew when I walked in the door that my pain was gone just by looking at me. I'm a believer and in fact I'm taking my boyfriend with me next time so Dr. Holland can take a look at him.
I was overcharged!!!! I was charged 3 times the average adjustment price. $95.00 for a manipulation, $80.00 for a office visit. When I called to review my bill I was treated rudely, and unfairly. The husband and wife duo were very friendly during the visits, but turned overly bitter when I called and had questions on my bill.
I was referred to Dr. Dan Solkamans for some pain in the neck and back by a friend for only $99. On the first visit he spent about 30 minutes with me and took some X-rays. He then got me adjusted and told me that he was going to go over my X-rays and would like to explain the results with me. The next day I came back and he spent a full hour with me showing me why I have been suffering for the past 3 years. He explained with plenty of research and examples and gave me his recommendations. He did have several options that fits different needs and lifestyles. He ranges for $30-$50. Because of he care that he showed me I took the 72 visit/9 month program. That was 3 months ago and I feel great! I continue to see results so much that my friends can see a difference in me. I have referred my own wife and he even takes care of my son now. I recommend Dr. Dan Solkamans to everybody. He's worth it!
Told I would pay exam fee of 35.00. Roller table 18.00 and adjustment fee? "Should be around 78. We file Medicare until you deduct is met then Tx will be 1.88.!?! It goes from 1.88,22++,34++,pay back check I got from Medicare 133.09 plus 34++. What is going on please???

I went twice and felt abused. 1st they had a physical therapy session in a crowded room with three other people with me just given 4 stretches to do and no personal attention to my scoliosis or sciatica, 2nd was a tens session, which was ok, but I can do it myself, 3rd was an all of two minute chiro session in which next to nothing was done--all billed at full price!!!

Chiropractic students are taught not to sell package treatments. It is completely shady and false promises to accomplish something dependent on so many variables. Your chiropractor should be 100% up front about what a single treatment entails, should walk you through her or his assessment of your condition, review any films or MRI's you may have had recently or order some at the local hospital (so your insurance will pay for it if the chiro does not have equipment on site), and then explain a treatment plan along with risks and benefits to you and yours in simple, no nonsense verbiage. No one else is trained to do a chiropractic adjustment and that is what you pay for. We attend graduate school for 4 years after most of us have finished BS degrees in biology, biochemistry, etc. If a chiropractor offers you a package deal, say thank you and walk away. Treatment is based on a visit by visit basis. Period.
I was in an accident and went to the chiropractor for 16 sessions. I received my claim and I was charged over $3000 for services I didn't receive. The lawyer and chiropractor are in cahoots together.
I went to this Clinic, for help with Post-Traumactic Fibromyalgia.I was told ,I had a Loss of curve in my neck, with x-rays that were taken in their clinic.in office x-rays.I suggest, but it is up to thee patientt, this was my true experience office clinic. If you like, have a radiologist take thee x-rays.I had 5 outside Specialist with very professional backgrounds in their field of expertise ,thee x-rays were viewed by thee Specialist. I had new ones taken.Guess what? no Loss of curve in my neck!I was so shocked beyond belief.I was taken and betrayed, etc. My true experience.Spinal Manipulation with my experience does not help with this terrible illness.
The Joint was amazing! I was looking for a convenient and affordable chiropractor for my and my family and i found it! at the joint the Front desk was amazing and helped me ask all of the questions that i needed answered. of course being a new mother i was scared to have my 9 month daughter adjusted. they gave me information on how and why it would be good for her. they even have family plans and you dont have to make an appointment, its all walk in. i suguest that you all look for a joint in your town they have 100+ and growing fast!
I was Overcharged for invoicing.I went to this Clinic for Treatment for Mayofascial release without Modalities.I was told, this treatment with modalities, would get you better faster however,my treatment will still work without the modalities. That was certainly incorrect.I have Chronic Diffuse Myofascial Pain Syndrome, created from a Auto Accident..Therapy in a Very warm water Physical Therapy swimming pool definitely will help this condition.Thee only Item you need is a 89 degree pool.Luckily I finally checked my Invoices for about 13 0r 14 visits. This Clinic which is speaking of my experience would have kept billing me and my Insurance Co.Believe me,I definitely know thee Monoply game. This is a very sad and true issue that has happened to me here at this Clinic.I was not told up front of what and how much,I was going to be Invoiced for.I am so glad,I checked into it.I would suggest to ask for pricing up front.Than get receipts. If I would have not checked into this Board Game,I would have been possibly depleted of my Funds.Their is a very good song called Smiling Faces.Listen to thee Lyrics. It is a little older of a song but it is one of my favorites. This is my true experience with this clinic. When I discovered thee Truth,it stopped though.I wonder why?I was also ordered a pillow,I did not even know of until a Year later about that Issue. They billed my Insurance Co.without permission.I found out by accident about thee pillow, that I was supposed to receive one.I did get it but only because I checked into thee Invoices.I admit I was native. No more! Please listen to Smiling Faces.
