Crafted of resin, porcelain, acrylic and/or metal, dentures are removable plates used when most or all of the teeth are missing. Conventional dentures are held in place by suction and possibly dental adhesive, while implant dentures are supported by dental implants but are still removable.
Typical costs:
If dentures are medically necessary, insurance might pay 15%-50% of the costs (up to the plan's annual limit, if there is one). A basic denture starts at about $300-$500 per plate, or $600-$1,000 for a full set of upper and lower teeth. These typically have limited warranties, don't last as long as more expensive models, tend to look artificial and may be adapted from a standard size instead of a customized fit.
A mid-range denture typically costs $500-$1,500 per plate or $1,000-$3,000 for a set. These offer a fairly personalized fit and usually come with a 1- or 2-year warranty.
Premium dentures can cost $2,000-$4,000 per plate, or $4,000-$8,000 or more for a set. Dentures in this price range are a personalized fit, use high-end materials to simulate the look of gums and teeth as closely as possible, last a long time and are warranted against chipping and cracking for 5-10 years or longer. Often the price includes several follow-up visits to fine-tune the fit.
Removable partial dentures start at $300 -$500, average around $700-$1,800,and can cost $2,000-$4,000 or more in gold (instead of acrylic or another metal). Partial dentures use a metal framework to hold artificial teeth in place, and can be attached to natural teeth with metal clasps or with precision attachments that are nearly invisible but require crowns on the real teeth.
It is often necessary to pull any remaining damaged teeth before getting dentures. Tooth extraction typically costs $75-$450 per tooth for a simple extraction and $150-$650 or more per tooth for a surgical extraction. Depending on the number of teeth to be pulled, the total cost of getting dentures can be $1,500-$20,000 or more for a full set (uppers and lowers). CostHelper readers report paying $2,000-$18,000 for a full set of removable dentures including tooth extractions and other preparation work, at an average cost of $9,063.
Two to six dental implants that support a removable denture plate can cost $3,500-$30,000 or more depending on the number and type of implants (mini-implants are less expensive), denture materials (in some cases an existing denture plate can be adapted for use with implants) and any other procedures needed. A full set (upper and lower) of implants and dentures can cost $7,000-$90,000 or more.
Dentures are available from a dentist or a prosthodontist (with specialized training in dentures), and prosthodontists typically charge more than dentists. The American Dental Association provides an overview of dentures[1] .
Conventional dentures are installed after the last teeth are removed, to allow for healing (typically six to eight weeks). There are typically separate appointments for impressions and measurements; checking a "try-in" model for fit; inserting and adjusting the final denture; and follow-up appointments to check comfort and function. Immediate (same-day) dentures are made in advance and inserted when the teeth are pulled. The University of Iowa provides an overview of immediate dentures[2] and a California dentist has a immediate denture video[3] .
An implant-supported denture often provides a better fit on the bottom jaw than conventional dentures. In many cases, an implant overdenture on the bottom is paired with a conventional top denture. It can take several months to learn to eat and speak while wearing dentures, and they require daily cleaning. SimpleStepsDental.com lists tips for living with dentures[4] .
Additional costs:
Dentures may crack or break, and the fit will change over time. Repairs can cost $50-$200 and professional relining to adjust the fit is typically $250-$450. Do-it-yourself repair or reline kits (available from drug stores or online) cost $10-$50.
Discounts:
The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research has tips for finding low-cost dental care[5] .
Shopping for dentures:
Ask how the dentures will be customized to fit, the materials used and how many follow-up appointments are included. A dental adhesive manufacturer lists questions to ask before getting dentures[6] .
If the patient has dental insurance, the insurance company will provide a list of approved dentists. Or search for local members of the American College of Prosthodontists[7] , the American Dental Association[8] or the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry[9] .

I had all my upper teeth removed because they were chewed up by my nightly teeth grinding, and I have maybe 6 teeth on the bottom, because my original dentist kept pulling them when he thought they should come out. With all my uppers pulled, they place four implants into my upper gums to hold a plastic denture (removeable), which I am uncomfortably wearing at present! I haven’t been able to taste food since this temporary fake denture was placed in my mouth after surgery. They had to cut a notch out of this plastic denture, or else it would get mauled by rubbing against a lower back tooth. This cheap piece of plastic they put in my upper mouth is rubbing a sore place on my upper left side, and the teeth look like and are the size of children’s teeth, and you can’t even see them when I speak, and my speech is awful, because the teeth don’t fit properly! If I try to eat with them, the come loose, and I can’t continue eating! I won’t even take them out EVER, because they look bad!

I am a 40 year old mother of 3 who had a dentist completely mess up my teeth and now I have broken and failing teeth. I can’t smile anymore and can’t afford to have anything done as I get no help from my kids father. I don’t ever ask for help with anything but I ran into this website and figured, why not at least give it a try. I haven’t smiled in about 7 years. I need teeth pulled and I need to be able to get dentures to eat regular food again. Thank you in advance if you can help
I have had dentures for almost 20 years. Of all the sets I have this new set looks awful !! They are oddly shaped, there is a hole in the acrylic "gum", the acrylic comes down on the teeth and food gets under it, now there is a strange black spot I cant get rid of. The dentist that made them told me I am stuck with them as they are. Any advice would be most helpful.

I’ve needed dentures for a couple years or more. Several teeth pulled and a couple broken, one in front and another chipped in front. We won’t have dental insurance again until next year but my husband wants me to get them now so I’ll feel better about myself and not be so depressed and afraid to smile. He’s had them for several years so he’ll help me get used to them. I’m getting full upper and lower with two implants on lower set. I’m very very nervous, and will have to pay on credit which will put more debt on us and with interest will be even more expensive.
I have had dentures since I was 21 years old. I have used Affordable Dentures for years. In Muncie, Indiana and now in Dayton, Ohio. I have never had a problem with them. They always fit well and I don't need adhesive.
Prostodontist in Mesa, AZ has quoted me $10,000 for full dentures NOT to include extractions (to be done elsewhere). He offers uppers and lowers immediate with a permanent set approx. 6 months later. Will be unable to talk, eat or sleep with them in place, requires replacement every 5 years. Is this a good price or should I look elsewhere?

Immediate Dentures were $3000 for the set full upper and full lower). Extractions of 19 teeth were another $3000. Some local dentists, I later learned, do both the immediate denture AND permanent dentures a year later for the same $3000. The immediate dentures are thick and unwearable. The "permanent" set, for which we will again pay for out-of-pocket (dentist had maxed our dental insurance for the year with fillings before she decided full-mouth extractions were needed) will be purchased elsewhere.
For the life of me, I can't understand the cost of acrylic upper and lower dentures that are implanted versus regular dentures. Are they not made of the same material? Would love that question answered.
I Desperately need to get both upper and lower set of mini dentures put in due to current low body weight. I have Sjogrens disease that destroyed my teeth so I paid to have them all removed. The Dentures I paid the dentist to have made were too painful and wouldn't hold. I Also have Multiple sclerosis and started a new medicine that cost over 2,300 a month so I had to sell my house in hopes I ca find a dentist or insurance combinination to finish teeth. Any advice or reference would be so helpful. I Am currently gumming my food and weight is a bit too low and can be dangerous if exacerbation.
I live near one of the cheapest denture shops in the country. I plan to get a full upper and a partial lower as soon as I can get into an oral surgeon to get my top teeth and roots removed. I just hate having to go 6-8 weeks w/o teeth in public and at work. It cost a few hundred more to get the temp detures, which I cannot afford.
I need financial help with partials and deep cleaning someone out there can you help me financially I am poor with Medicare, Medicaid I am desperate with no options they say if I do not get the partials I will loose the rest of my teeth and my facial features will be affected.
The biggest problem I have is that I constantly feel the dentures part of the upper roof of my mouth I can't get use to that feeling.I also have to take them out when I eat.I can't eat pizza or chew meat because the top dentures move around.please people take care of your teeth having dentures is not fun.I read you are suppose to have 32 teeth I know have 8 natural teeth.
6 extractions top teeth + upper denture cost: 50% discount - $300 per tooth = $1800 plus office visit- no dental ins- 50% upfront and 50% when denture are in - I have used this dentist- was on special program - already had upper and lower dentures- my tooth evaluation was high-tooth were loose- I had incident when removing my upper denture-part of wire that help to hold denture in- broke off - not able to repair my choice was either new upper partial or extractions and upper denture - I already paid out over $5000 for treatments and upper and lower partials.i research on computer to get data for extraction and denture - ada need an over/view of dental charges for treatment - each set their own charges and payment plan
Please if anyone has any info on how much an upper implanted denture will cost please respond if you can. I was quoted 5,000 for a regular upper denture (the removable one) so I was only guessing that the implanted one would cost about 8/10,000
I had 30 extractions at $95x28 and $145x2, I had only ~8 whole teeth but all had roots. I was fitted with immediate dentures and will get the permanent dentures in 6 months or so. Dentures were 'Economy-Plus' at $1,460 for full set. All extractions and immediate dentures were same day at Affordable Dentures.
