Why are root canals so expensive!
They quoted me 1,995 with a porcelain crown. With out it would be $800 cheaper.
Still shopping around while in soo much pain! Help!

Total charge was just under 1500 with 229 co pay
nitrus would have been 90.
1500 for less than 40 mins of work including exam /xrays.
shame on these dentist. it s not like they need to jack up prices to compensate for non paying customers like the hosp. do.
They may be despised more than attorneys for such robbery.

I went to a specialist Dr. Jafania in Schamburg, Il to get my root canal done on tooth 18 (back left lower molar). It began hurting pretty bag and I just put it on the backburner for too long. All of the other dentists wanted to charge me way more - even the ones that were in network with Met Life PPO (my insurance). Anyway, overall great experience - very professional, didn't feel any pain (I did ask for nitrous sedation), and it doesn't hurt today and it's been just 24 hours since I had the procedure.. He also does everything under a microscope and is very upfront, won't try to wax your insurance with unnecessary 'consultations/xrays/etc.' I called them, told them I needed a root canal done, gave them my insurance, they told me the cost to the exact penny, and did a fantastic work. Too bad all he does is root canals because now I need to get a crown. Hopefully I'll find some other dental professional that's just as good.
Highly recommend Dr. Jafania and his staff!!

I am fairly certain that the cost of dental procedures of a specific code is quite constant within a dental association locality. I was once told about a crown:"if you want a better price you have to go to a different location."
My dentist referred me and it cost me $1000 for a 30 minute procedure. It is the problem with the fee for service system that dentists and doctors like to use. Plus using the coding book that seems to allow for a "No competition on price", like a cartel. In industry that calls for anti-trust action.

Tooth #10 next to my front teeth broke off near the gum line. I have insurance but it does not cover root canals. My crown was $300, post and core was $100, and the endodontic therapy was $200. Prior to getting the procedure I voiced how I had bad credit and could not be accepted for payment plans. The dentist was SO sweet, was very patient with me and accepted installments from me based on my word. The original cost of my treatment plan was $900 and she dropped it down to $600 to fit my budget. I understand I came into a rare situation but I'm so happy now that my smile is perfect again!

My Dentist saw me on short notice with a sudden tooth ache. X-ray provided diagnose of needing a root canal in the lower molar. Prescribed anti-biotic to be taken for a week. Three canal root job done by drilling through existing gold crown. Several x-rays taken during procedure, then composite fill. No pain until I got the bill! Checking this and other sites it appears a low end "normal" price for the work done.

Had a filling fall out of molar and didnt go to get it fixed for atleast 3-4 months. The molar then cracked. Had to get a root canal and crown. I have insurance with metlife with a 1500 max, root canal covered 80% and crown 60% ended up costing me 444.33, i was so suprised at how cheap it came out to be and this is not some hole in the wall place. Still have more insurance money for my few cavities.

I have the best Dentist in the world!! when I return for my second session, NO CHARGE. NO PAIN TALKING ABOUT FAVOR FROM GOD. I Praise God for My Dentist.

If you get the dental work done at a dental school by fourth year or postgraduate dental students, (most large universities have dental and medical schools ), you can get a significant discount. And the work is usually excellent and is under the supervision of dental professors, with state of the art equipment. Hope this helps.

SHOP AROUND GUYS! Seriously if you are on a budget you need to shop around as if you were buying a car. One office told me 1,400 for one crown, i went online and got some cheap dental clinics in my area, most that have Medi-Cal/ Low-income based patients (usually offer cheaper prices than the private ones). I was also in pain like many of you but toughed it out with pain killers and anti-biotics until i found a good price. Luckily since I am a full-time college student and explained my situation to the receptionist, he helped me fill out some forms and were able to get my Root Canal covered for free so all i had to pay for was the crown. This office did not offer payments plans but were nice enough to let me pay half on my first visit and the other half when the crown came back from the lab and was ready to be put in. I hope i've encouraged some of you to shop around, i feel your pain!! I went through it. Good Luck.

I had horrible pain I was charged $1200.00 for the first part of the procedure. He only said he killed 95% of the root to get me out of pain but that I have to come back for the rest of the procedure after the baby is born. He said another 45 mins in the chair then I need the crown and I have no idea what that is going to run me. I was in so much pain I didn't even ask what the price was now I am in shock that I am only a 1/3 of the way through. Thanks for the comments though as least I am more informed now.

I went in for a painful area above a previously root-canal'd & capped tooth. After x-ray, dentist explained 50% success record of retreated r/c teeth, so I deferred to his judgment and opted for implant/cap. I was never shown the x-ray. He injected anesthetic and returned 15 min. later. I remarked that I was putting quite a bit of money into one tooth.

Surprisingly, he never extracted the tooth, but gave me antibiotic. I learned (on the way out) that the implant/cap would cost me $2700. To have me make the decision to have the tooth extracted and the implant/cap done, costing me $2700 out-of-pocket without me having any idea of the expense of that decision was outrageous. Given a 50% chance of success and a relatively low cost for a r/c retreatment, I NEVER would have selected the extraction approach. I had asked for a copy of the x-ray on my way out, but have never received it.Neither was my cost submitted so it could be applied to my deductible.

I had a prior root canal on this tooth many years ago and had to have it redone. The reason for the higher price. My dentist in Ridgecrest sent me to Palmdale. I totally trust him and his recommendation was well worth the money. My mother has dentures and hates them. I will never have them. If I end up losing a tooth I will go to implants.
