Dental Crown Cost - Buyer Experiences and Price Information

Had a root canal a few years back, that tooth was infected and had to be pulled out. Who's gonna take responsibility for this? the dentist that messed up the root canal ? who's gonna pay for my new implant?
if dentists are going to charge so much for fees, they should be able to pay for my new fees since they're the ones that messed up my tooth and now it's gone, money can't replace it.

Grinding teeth has led to many cracked teeth. This last one was a very tricky one to save because I waited 5 years! Therefore the bottom molar had lifted up to fill in the vacant space of broken #2. I about freaked out when I learned about the cost for 1 tooth, but it looks like I am not alone. I feel like I am being treated by a very experienced dentist, so I have no complaints. Every procedure done in my mouth (MANY)have been done by a different dentist. So you could say 1) I have not received satisfactory treatment to go back a second time 2) I research their recommendations before agreeing. I will just take out more money for HSA. The dental insurance offered is a waste of money,IMO.

3 crowns with buildup cost 3375 with the insurance covering a little more than half of it. After looking at other posts this seems common. I'm getting a Sonic toothbrush or something similar to try to save my other teeth. Much cheaper than crowns. I wish I had known more

All my molars have been crowned over a period of years. Three years ago I learned that the tooth had cracked above the gum line, but I felt no pain. Advised to see specialist who told me to just leave it until I felt pain. Regular dentist was great, referred me to specialist. Specialist advised waiting. Perhaps you fix your teeth when needed for cosmetic reasons or pain.

Husband went to dentist for cleaning with no complaints. Dentist said crown necessary at $1100. Xrays showed no cracks but tooth does have a filling. Went to new dentist who said there is no reason to crown as it was not necessary. WTF! Our out of pocket would have been 50%! Obviously changing dentists now.

The ORIGINAL cost was 6058 but i spoke directly with my dentist who in 2007 did a 3 unit bridge on 17, 18 and 19 for me which was porcelain fused to metal for 3780. i didn't complain but whined and well you know....so he gave me a really big discount and also is allowing me to pay over 3 months with no interest. he's married but i'm thinking.....well, the whining worked anyway! good luck ladies!!!

6000 was the cost of just the bridge, not the implant itself.

I went to one dentist that wanted to charge $1,200 per tooth and $200 per tooth build up.... $8,400..... I think not! Also.... my insurance only allows for $480 per crown... she said that there was an up-charge of $700 per tooth because of the material I wanted to use so that my teeth look real. B.S....
Went to the next dentist with QUOTE in hand. Is going to do the whole thing with the best material for $5,985.
I called the Dental insurance to tell them about the 1st dentist.... and they did nothing.

Just had my 2 fronts done. The cost billed to insurance was $992 per tooth plus the initial visit which Im not sure how much that was

1st visit--went in with one freshly chipped tooth and costs of work and crown explained. I authorized. then work began---novacaine applied in large amount eliminating ALL feeling in tongue. Was told to bite and grind while my tongue was in the way--chewed through tongue and mouth filled with blood. Sigh. two molds were made: one to be sent off and one for the temporary cap. 2nd visit: crown was too small, new mold made. 3rd visit: crown was too small 2 new molds made. 4th visit: CROWN WAS STILL TOO SMALL 2 more new molds made. 5th visit and 4th attempt: crown fit after adjustment. "Oh...sorry--crowns are complicated and problems happen."

95% of the price is labor not material itself...a crown costs to dentist e.g. 80 dollars and he turns around installs it in your mouth...and the price is 1500 dollars....good business!!!

Such ignorance is displayed by the general public.. Working in the dental industry for many years I have seen very dynamic treatment cases with many variables. Having said that, one can not assume any particular offices cost as associated with crowns made in a dental lab. There are many custom labs that create custom veneers and crowns. Yes, a dentist could find a lab where crowns are 115 each. However,a good cosmetic dentist would utilize a good lab and a good lab charges way more than 115 per crown. Just got a lab bill for $980 for 2 teeth that our lab made for a patient. That's a 980 bill to the Dr. One must consider that there are many people in that office with a lot of overhead that is never mentioned on boards such as this one. The person that greets you and handles your confusing benefit info at the front office cost 20 per hr..The assistant that assists the Dr. to keep the patient comfortable..20 per hr. the materials are not cheap either. Do the math and pay ur bill!

everybody wants to do implants over crowns but no one take the cost into consideration of course you like the thing that last the longest and looks the best but i don't haoppen to have $3000 just lying around so you get the crown only for it to not last and there you are right back at the crown or the bridge which they says puts stress on the other teeth it's attached to .....you can't win you have insurance but they don't want to pay for anyhting that is worth while...this is why people can't keep up witht there teeth the cost is rediculous

It cost $1,000 per crown I had 6 crowns a root canal exrays for $9,400. Insurance paid $1,000. Now retired and will have all of them pulled as they go band and get fals teeth. Should have done it before

The cost of a crown covers the DR's prepping of your old existing tooth to accept a crown,and taking an impression! After that the lab fees are usually about 10% of what the dr. charges for it. for example: average crown from lab=$115. Do not let the Dr. tell you that "his lab is expensive"!

Was told I needed a crown for a fractured tooth that I was not even experiencing any pain in or anything. Was told that crowns are $1000, my insurance would pay 50%. That would leave me with $500 out of pocket. Then I got the bill for $750. Apparently they had to do a build up which cost an additional $250. I refused to pay! I had been going to the same dentist for about 15 years too! There always seemed to be some kind of hidden cost involved. I just switched dentists. Crown there costs $800 for the same procedure. ($200 less than previous dentist).

I am really pissed. My wife had problems resulting from a butchered root canal and got infections-after a period of time we went to another dentist who said 4 teeth would have to be pulled and new implants put in--result 12,000$ THEN this year i went in for 2 chipped teeth--the same dentist said I would have to have 2 crowns at a thousand a tooth--he said bonding would not last. Then he examined another tooth and said he would have to pull that one and implant a tooth---all for 2,800$----these costs are obcene and beyond the pale--where is Obama when we need him?

bad bite damaged all teeth and high level of wear. dentist wants to crown and bridge all surfaces plus some gum damage repair. I will seek second opinion as price is beyond the pale.

6 & 7 were root canals and crowns. 4,5,8,9,10,&11 were resin surfaces. No insurance. The dentist gave a 10% discount for paying cash. Does this seem reasonable? Teeth issues due to chronic dry mouth and excessive amounts of medications for various medical illnesses.

Prior to me getting this dental work done, I had to pay up front. I requested root canals on all teeth which were to be crowned and was told this would not be necessary. Now I have had two abcessed treated and the crowns had be be drilled and patched in order to get relief. Is there a statue of limiation on expensive work like this or is there a recourse. The denist have since changed the name of his practice but the check was made out to him.

I went to dentist and we discussed the price - 2, 700. However, when I got the bill it was fro 3,000. I complained and requested to drop to agreed price and give me some percentage off and they gave me 5%, which dropped the price to 2,560. Still, when I look at the bill my hair stand on my head. Where can we find out the prices that are not just made up. First, I already had root canals, and teeth were shaved for bridge ( I was replacing onld one). The bill showed 3 teeth, each 890. Why? Middle was empty ad two side ones (as I said) were already prepared. Then they cleaned one tooth a little and it made it too small so they did build-up and charged 230 for it. What the hell? Why no one watchin the dentists and how they make up prices?

Got a consultation for my entire mouth, and I was floored with a $26,790 bill!! And the 3 crowns/root canals was $5,720!!

My dentist is wonderful. I was one of those idiots that never took care of my teeth in my youth and boy am I paying for it now. I have had many crowns done by this dentist, along with root canals. My prior dentist did such shoddy work that all of their work is having to be redone as well. Not having dental insurance has been disheartening, but now, seeing how little it pays, I am probably coming out ahead. Anyhow, the moral to this story is to shop around, ask friends about their dentists and find one that you really like and trust. I am a total dental phobic and she is wonderful and understands all about that.

my tooth filled a couple years ago but the filling cracked.piece fell out when i ate breakfast and then a larger piece fell out when i had cake a couple hours later. I have no insurance so i have to pay out of pocket. Not sure why it was so expensive. I'm a part time job, and I just moved into my own apartmetment so this bill really hurts.

I was just wondering, Is it proper protocal to charge your client their %40 of the bill when they are still under the effects of the Nitros gas immediately after the work, to have no itemized bill presented to them, and have yet to file the claim with your insurance company?
