Dimple creation surgery can form a dimple or dimples on the cheeks or chin of a person who was not born with dimples.
Typical costs:
Dimple creation typically costs $1,500-$2,500, depending on whether the patient gets one dimple or two. For example, Gal Aharanov, M.D.[1] , in Beverly Hills, CA, charges $1,500 for one dimple and $2,500 for two. And Mehta Plastic Surgery[2] in Atherton, CA, charges $1,795 for one and $2,495 for two.
Dimple creation is considered a cosmetic procedure, so it would not be covered by health insurance.
During an initial consultation, the doctor will provide information about dimple creation and help the patient decide where the dimple or dimples should be placed, and on the desired depth and shape. Sometimes computer imaging software is used to help the patient visualize the dimples on his or her face.
For the procedure, the doctor typically uses local anesthesia, makes a small incision on the inside of the cheek (or chin), removes a tiny piece of muscle, then makes a single stitch to secure the skin to the indentation. The procedure takes 30 minutes to an hour.
A liquid diet typically is required for a few days after the procedure. Because dimple creation causes some facial swelling, some patients might choose to take a few days off work.
During healing, scar tissue forms between the skin and muscle, causing the dimple to stay in place after the suture dissolves. At first, dimples will be present even when the patient is not smiling.
Additional costs:
The doctor probably will prescribe antibiotics for recovery. Antibiotics can cost $15-$50, depending on the antibiotic prescribed. Pain medication can be prescribed, but most patients use Tylenol or another over-the counter medication, which typically costs less than $10.
Betadine mouthwash, used during recovery, typically costs $15-$18 for a bottle.
Discounts:
Many plastic surgeons offer discounts of 10% to 20% for multiple procedures, and some offer periodic coupons or discounts.
Shopping for dimple creation:
A board-certified plastic surgeon with experience in dimple creation should perform the procedure. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons[3] and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery[4] offer referral services.
It is a good idea to ask the doctor how many dimple creation procedures he or she has performed and to ask to see actual before-and-after photographs of former patients.
Risks of dimple creation include bleeding, infection, injury to facial nerves and dissatisfaction with results.

They look hella cute!
