To those that say they will take their chances - you WILL regret it. I thought I never had chicken pox but I did get shingles (have them now). You would be glad to pay $500 to avoid shingles.
I will get the vaccine as soon as I get over this case of shingles.

I have a CIGNA HSA plan, post ACA. I assume it is catagorized as preventive care as there as no cost for the shot at CVS with my Insurance plan. (which obviously was the lowest cost high deductability plan available to me)

Co-pay was $94 at Tom Thumb (Safeway). Even in retirement, I can well afford the cost, but I refused the outrageous co-pay. If the vaccine only reduces risk of shingles by 50% according to my doctor, I'll take my chances. This is no life or death matter. Just another blitz for greedy drug companies in my opinion.

Covered by Aetna PPO. Got it @ local doc-in-the- box, where I was going anyway for pre-surgery (arthroscopy) clearance. My IM doc was out of town, so cldn't do the PE, labs, & EKG, & doesn't offer the shingles vacc anyway. Also got a flu shot. Seemed like a bargain.

My wife and I are on Medicare. I have an Advantage plan and my wife has a supplement without part D. We both got them from our doctor as part of UCLA. I paid nothing and my wife paid $575. While it was ignorance on our part not to know she was not covered it is still completely outrageous that UCLA would charge that amount. At least we could have been warned.

Got mine 2 years ago from CVS in Florida after I had suffered through herpes zoster earlier.
My wife wants to get it now as preventative but the cost is between $190 and $220 if you don't have Medicare Part D
My feelings are that this price is just proof of the disgusting greed of big Pharma

I received my shot at Price Shopper Pharmacy where I didn't need an appt. Most places I did. I have AARP and that was my deductible. I was a little surprised not knowing I would be paying so much but I got it anyway.

My insurnace paid for it less the $25 copay. It was somewhat unusual in the way I received it. I had to go to the pharmacy and obtain it and then take to my DR' office to be adminstered. This must be done within a 30 minute timeframe. Well worth $25 and the trip to avoid getting this conditon again.

Seniors are constantly being reminded on television commercials about the importance of the shingles vaccine for Seniors. Seniors are on fixed income and pay Medicare fees and are required to obtain Part D (drug) coverage so why do Seniors still have to pay so much for this vaccine? My doctor does not stock this vaccine so I had to go to Walgreens and with my Drug D coverage still had to pay $225. Government agencies support assistance programs and countries (who do not support us) but does not accommodate their own and Seniors regarding this vaccine. It does not make sense. It is a shame as I know Seniors who refuse to get this vaccine due to this out-of- pocket expense.

Age 67 . . . The immunization is covered under my Medicare Advantage plan as a prescription, copay of Tier 2 ($50; common meds under this plan are Tier 1, $10 copay). My plan has no copay for visits to my primary care physician. Thus, my total cost at Walgreens is my $50 prescription copay for the shingles immunization.

Most insurance companies will not pay for this vaccine unless you are over the age of 62. Both my husband and I did purchase the vaccine today for a total cost 458.00. Bottom line is we would much rather pay this than have shingles. I know it is expensive but if you google Shingles Vaccine you may be able to find a rebate, coupon and drug company help. Don't let the price stop you from continuing to try and fine a way to get this vaccine. No one wants shingles....

My prescription drug plan paid most of the cost. My co-pay was $93.00 at Walgreens. I had no idea that the shot, highly recommended, would fall under my drug plan and not Medicare and would cost me so much! That cost definitely needs to be publicized as much as the shot itself for those of us seniors who are watching our pennies!

Medical office I work at is shopping to purchase these vaccines. Single manufacturer charges whatever they please. Cost for us to purchase from supplier is >$400.00 per injection. Doesn't pay to stock these! It's shameful!
