My sister and I both got shingles vaccine shots as we've both had shingles in the past. My sister just got over shingles all over the right side of her face. My Health Net insurance paid for my shot...her Humana insurance charged her $8.40....why? We both live together in the same area. We both got shots in January 2016.

Husband has AARP Medicare Complete -United Healthcare. He didn't get the shot because CVS said it would cost approx. $189 up front. When we called AARP MedicareComplete they said part of the cost is his deductible and part of it is his co-pay. That's still too much money. His doctor didn't have a way to store the vaccine in his office and he's retiring the end of this year.

Have AARP Advantage plan and would have to pay full price at Rite Aid because I have nothing on my deductable for tier 4 drugs which is whay the shingles shot is.If deductable was met, I would have to pay $95. Guess I am penalized for being a healthy senior.Thougt I could be proactive instead of reactive. WRONG.

I AM OUTRAGED THAT AS A SENIOR I HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING FOR THE SHINGLES VACCINE, WHILE THE FLU SHOT IS FREE. EVERY TIME I CALL MY DOCTORS OFFICE,HEALTHCARE PROVIDER, (HARVARD PILGRIM ENHANCE) I GET A DIFFERENT ANSWER. THEY EITHER ARE NOT INFORMED PROPERLY, OR THEY JUST DON'T CARE. MY DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT DOCTORS WERE NOT GETTING PAID FOR THE VACCINE BY INSURANCE COMPANIES, SO THEY LET THE SENIORS PAY FOR IT, LET THE SENIOR GET STUCK GETTING PAID BACK RATHER THAN THE DOCTOR. I WILL FIGHT THIS FOREVER BECAUSE IT IMPACTS ALL SENIORS, TALK TO YOUR ELDERLY AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT, CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES THIS IS AN OUTRAGE.

You will be covered only if the vaccine is administered at a Tri-Care approved facility. For example, it will be covered in you Doctor's office if he/she is a tri-care provider and you have the shot in his/her office. But, if he/she gives you a prescription and you have the shot administered elsewhere it may not be covered. Call Tri-care if you have questions.

I am 60 years old and wanted to get a shingles vaccine, as recommended by friends who have had shingles, that it should be avoided if possible. Our PPO Blue Shield will not cover it. No explanation and no response to our appeal, 2 months later.
I will have to pay cash for it at Costco $225 or VON'S $239.
Still thinking about it.

I just got over the shingles. I still have some. Knowing inside with the nerve I have had shingles 5 times! I am 80 years old. I don't have part d on my Medicare. I do have blue cross prescription card. I don't think they will pay but will call them and ask. My friends say. Well you need to get the shot. But they. Can easily say that. Because they have the money to do that. I don't happen to have that kind of money. So I don't say anything to them. I may see if my dr has the shot. And mabe he would let me make payments. Anyway. I didn't get the shingles as bad this time. Thankful for that. Hope it's ok to post. This since I have not had the shot.

I have chosen to NOT get the shingles vaccination. Although my insurance covers the cost, every place I have call ed requires that I pay for the vaccine and then be reimbursed. As I am on SSDI, I cannot afford the $245, I have decided to take my chances. Very disgusting that they tell us to get vaccinated, yet make it impossible for some to get the shot.

Kaiser Permanente Southern California.
I'm 63, and I saw my primary care physician but forgot to ask about this shot. I sent her an email and almost immediately the nurse called me to set up an appointment. I got the shot, had a minor itchy rash for a week.

Here's my dilemma. I have an auto-immune disorder already, (dx'd 20 yrs. ago) Got a full-blown shingles attack four years ago -- From my hairline, down the middle forehead into and through my right eyelid/eye. Doctor said I might lose my eye. He also said it will come back ever four years. That's, now.
I called BS of CA PPO and they confirmed no health coverage till age 60, period. Whether or not my Rheumy gives it to me or a drugstore.
I also saw a coupon on line for Zostavax.
Should I just print out the coupon and walk into a drugstore for this and hope for the best? I have NO money right now and really don't want this thing to return.
What are your suggestions?
I would love to keep the costs at under $100 if possible.

My husband and I both got a shot. We have Humana insurance and we had a $116 co-pay.
Painless injection, no ache, no sore. After seeing 2 live cases of shingles we think that even the hope of a lighter outbreak is worth the cost of the shot.
Went to CVS, no script needed.

My doctor recommended it and said I'd need a booster next year. Fortunately my insurance paid for it. The shot did not hurt, but the next day and for the following two weeks I could not lift my arm or move my shoulder. Suffered swelling and redness, and itching where injected. This is all a scam on the elderly. Avoid the shot. I know about 1,000 people over age 70 who never got the shot; have never had shingles. It's all CDC BS!

This sounds like many people are being scammed that have PART-D coverage. I have cigna they said it was a $40 co-pay. I am being co-payed to death by these people. It appears that I have it better than most, but they still find a way to screw me and bilk us out of our tax dollars. I looked at a recent 'bill' or statement and it shows the amount 'provider' bills to the 'plan', with provider and plan both being the same entity, cigna anyway on one service they stated that there was no co-pay or co-insurance payment, when in reality there was a $150 co-pay that I was charged before they would do the labs. I think it is time to start writing our congressmen when these insurance companies refuse to pay for these items that are most certainly covered. BTW, MEDICARE COVERS the shingles vaccine @ 55, so pretty much any senior on Medicare should be covered. Also I do not think it is legal to charge these 'pharmacy' and all these extras that they are charging.

Cost at Sam's Club was 215, my Dr. insisted I have it as I've had to endure recurring shingles w post-herpetic neuralgia - severe leg pain on both sides.
The Sam's Club pharmacist was awesome.
I'm hoping this brings some relief...If so, worth the money!

Humana Medicare Part D Insurance thru Walmart. Cost $210 with insurance. Refuse to pay that for one injection. This is a preventative medication most effective for seniors. Once again, the drug companies and /or insurance are taking advantage of seniors. Medicare.gov says part D should cover. Well hmph not in my case and I am 67. And this is 2015, not 2014.

Dr said group he's with doesn't offer shot as so expensive. If insurances normally cover then seems they'd give it. Called Walgreens & was told would be $300. Asked if covered by ins & was told NO.I have Medicare & state medical for Secondary ins. Did't know Medicare Part D, which is medication coverage, ever covered vaccines. Medicare Part B, outpatient care ex. Dr visits, pays for my influenza vaccine. Think WAY too expensive & ads seem to use scare tactics. Looks like no one seems to agree if medicare covers or what part of medicare

Have Medicare and Anthem BC/BS supplement. CVS quoted $134.99 but CostCo was $31.00. Got it yesterday and no issues. I did , however have shingles in October, 2013. Today is Feb. 13, 2015 but this only allows you to go to 2014. It WAS 2015 though.
