Shingles Vaccine Cost - Buyer Experiences and Price Information

I have Medicare part D and my copay was $85. Don't understand why all the Walgreens are different prices, as well as the copays being different. I think the price of this vaccine is ridiculously high. Everyplace seems to be charging what they darn well please. Seems to depend on what state you live in.

Humana will no pay for it.

My BCBS HMO covered cost 100%. Less pain than flu shot as it is injected just under the skin. Took at Dr's office while there for other type visit so no additional fees. (2015 not a choice)

I have medicare and an AARP supplement. I was quoted $195 but I don't know if that covered the cost of administration. It cost $50 to get my flu shot injected. Insurance would pay for the flu shot but not the shingles shot. I'm going to shop around and see if I can find it cheaper.

I have AARP RX (Medicare PartD) I called them3 times & got 3 different answers. They said I would not have to pay anything because I pay for the preferred plan. Someone else said I would be covered but needed a dr. pre-approval (I had a prescription) the third person said it was a tier 4 medication and I would have a $95 copay. I got the vaccine at Rite Aid and had to pay $95 copay. Very disappointed with my AARP RX plan. I see that other plans cover it with a lower copay.

these shots should only cost $25.00 at most with my cignahealthsping coverage that's what it cost in west dover this is ridiculous it needs too be regulated on the federal @ state level by insurance commissioner's offices this quote is from January 15,2015.

Insurance did not pay. (Also $21 charge for cost of getting the injection.) Very high cost. Sent notice to insurance company and they are still checking it out. Also checking the cost out with the clinic I got it at.

I requested that Walmart pharmacy contact my primary doctor so that he would approve my request for the Shingles vaccine. He approved then sent to Medicare for approval of payment. I am 59, on state disability and have Medical for overlap in coverage. To purchase would have been $240.00, I paid $3.60.

Got mine at the Docs during a routine visit. Nurse just said time for your shot. I said fire away. Small copay.......$20? Go Tricare, Go NAVY.

Got the shot and still got shingles. Dr. said getting shot doesn't mean you still can't get them. Money wasted!

AT CVS/PHARMACY SAID IT WAS MY CO-PAY ..

I called bcbs not covered, contacted Express Scripts they covered with doctors prescription. I called primary care doc got script went to Kroger pharmacy got shot for 25.00 co pay through my express script. New CDC guidelines are ages 50 + . I do get 50 50 chance but it is worth the risk not to get shingles.

My doctor wanted a little over $200 for the vaccine. I got it at Costco for $185. All of this was out of my pocket. Neither Medicare nor my supplement paid anything

Got my shot at the local health departmet. No cost.

With my AARP part D, the charge would be $60.00 at the Drs. office and $45.00 at Walgreens. The regular total price without ins at Walgreens is $224.99. I just rec'd my Shingles vaccine at Walgreens for $45.00.

I had to call around because BIG Y would not do it because I am not 60. They know 50 is the recommended age, but that is "their policy."
CVS also has this policy IF you do not have a prescription for it. Over 60, you do not need a prescription. Primary care docs do not stock it, because it HAS to be refrigerated. Its a live culture.
I have a prescription, so I have to go to CVS, if they ever have anyone on that can give it to me. That also has been an issue. "The pharmacist who gives them is not on now". He is never there, and I call all the time.
Why are MOST pharmacies making 60, the cut-off age, when they know, those over 50 need to get this? Talk about super-stupid. $15.00 co-pay is better than the $250.00, some pay.

Presented at Dr. Office with mild shingles diagnosis. Was given vaccine to treat possible post shingles neuralgia. Poster in exam room showed CDC FDA protocol guidelines changed from age 60 to age 50. Humana did not pay as Kentucky guidelines still age 60,( I am 54 ) Received bill for $250.00.

at first my local giant eagle pharmacy wanted $233 up front for shot even though my insurance highmark covers it. after some kind of 'to do' between highmark and giant eagle, now the cost is $0!

After not being able to get either a shingles vaccine or a flu shot at Publix with my insurance yesterday (my insurance said I was covered; Publix said I was not?!), I got both today at CVS. Initially, the pharmacist said she could only give shingles on the protocol starting at age 65, but I told her the CDC protocol said age 60. She double-checked and then said OK.

I'm 63 - Blue Shield HMO website says I'm covered for the vaccine. My doctor (like most) doesn't carry the vaccine. Costco, Von's, Walgreens, Ralphs all charge $200+ and say I'm not covered. I called Blue Shield and they said the stores/pharmacies can't bill Blue Shield directly - but get the vaccine, pay the out of pocket and they will reimburse me. The stores did not provide me with this info - anyone with a health plan should check this out prior to getting the vaccination.

$302 for vaccine, plus $52 for the administration of the shot in my doctors office. Was not informed of the cost, (my fault for not asking I guess), but did not expect it to be this much! They did have me sign a consent form, but didn't realize that Medicare, or Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Iowa would not cover any of it.

Blue Cross PPO California says only a medical benefit - will not pay if received at a pharmacy
Dr. - who is a PPO provider - huge multi-DR practice - will not bill as medical - patient must pick up at pharmacy and bring to them for injection.
In other words I would have to pay whole amount and office visit as well. Can't afford.
Even as pharmacy benefit would cost deductible $150. this is a preventive vaccine and should be given by my DR at his office and fully covered like Hep B , tetanus, etc. under Blue Cross PPO
Obviously a rip off by all concerned.
Will wait for better availability - maybe they should ditch TV ads and make the vaccine affordable.

I called Blue Chip for Medicare to ask if Zostavax was covered. I was told if my doctor had it in his office I would only have to pay a physician co-pay, no pharmacy deductible. So I got the shot. Then I received a bill for $205.41. Blue Cross/Blue Shield paid $21.64. When I called Blue Cross/Blue Shield, they said I had to pay a $100 pharmacy co-pay, my doctor's $40 co-pay, plus $45 for the cost of the drug under Pharmacy Tier 2. Flu shots and other vaccines are covered under Medicare Part B. This is the only one that is covered under Medicare Part D. Risk of shingles infection is high after ate 60. This is de facto age discrimination. If I had known I'd have to pay this enormous bill I wouldn't have gotten the vaccine. That is why I called in advance and was given the wrong info. I'm furious.
