ER visit after bus accident on interstate, July 2011
Amount: $10,800.00
Posted by: Willy Ragbrai in South Bend, IN.Posted: December 11th, 2016 10:12PM
Medical Center: Memorial Hospital, South Bend, INCondition: auto (bus) accident
Tests or Treatment Required: x-rays, ct-scans, blood tests
An ambulance brought me to the hospital after the bus driver lost control of the bus (70 mph or so). I spent about four hours at the hospital. Most of the time I was in an unused room lying in a backboard for my neck. The bill was $10,800. The hospital waited nearly two years to file the charges so my insurance company denied them. The collection agency sent one note to me without checking if the hospital had submitted the charges. When I won a very small sum from the driver's insurance company, the collection agency sent another request for $10,800 to my lawyer. The collection agency did not appear to have checked the status of the claim. My attorney does not seem to know how long a healthcare institution can submit claims for reimbursement. He thought I could get a reduction (really).

First off, i agree cost is outrageous...2nd, this has nothing to do with the practitioner...the hospitals have to boost the cost of everything because of our greedy insurance companies and government...please search for an article in the minneapolis star tribune from july i believe...top paid CEOs in the state...Independent Health top paid executive was paid in excess of 25K/year...yes per year...value was higher i believe...perhaps this executive could pass along some of this yearly salary to the people he/she is gauging to pay for horrible insurance...blame your government for allowing the treatment patients to turn into big business...im very embarrassed of this country presently...NO ONE needs or requires or deserves a salary that absurd...

My son had a swollen eyelid,I took him to an urgent care clinic rather than taking him to the ER. The PA looked at him and said it's a big bite, should go down in a few days. Then charged me 360$ for literally a 10 minute visit. That didn't even require gloves, because she never touched my son.

ER Visit

Posted by: Frustrated With Asking For Help in St. Petersburg, FL.Posted: August 7th, 2016 08:08PM
Medical Center: St. Petersburg HospitalCondition: Alcohol Withdrawal
Tests or Treatment Required: IV Fluids, Ativan, Two Blood Tests
I was having trouble quitting drinking and was looking for help. I went to the ER with some family members. Spent less than an hour there after being called before being discharged. Received one IV bag of fluids, one dose of Ativan, and two blood tests. Spent less than one minute speaking with the doctor. He said I should go to rehab, but I couldn't do that tonight and he wouldn't give me anything to help with seizures that I've had on previous attempts to quit. Received a bill for $10,200. Our family has no medical insurance.

ER visit

Posted by: Never go to TMC ER EVER! in Tucson, AZ.Posted: June 27th, 2016 09:06AM
Tests or Treatment Required: None
Took my 10 month old son to ER for 101 temp. Sat outside for an hour, sat in A dinky room for 45 minutes, nurse can in ask me some questions, took me to another room to wait for the doc. Doc came in 30 minutes later, gave my so. Some IB (which he later had an allergic reaction too) and we left. $450 charged for sitting room space I guess and $772 charged by the doc for $12 IBuprofen. It's not based on time, it's based on tests. WHat test??? Running a temp? Thoughts of suing for fraud. Moms shouldn't be punished for worrying about their child.... We worry enough!

Toddler swallows a small piece of plastic
Amount: $1,714.85
Posted by: Bao in Fountain Valley, CA.Posted: May 10th, 2016 03:05PM
Medical Center: Fountain Valley ERCondition: Plastic Toy swallowed
Tests or Treatment Required: X-Ray
She's just a toddler who swallowed a small piece of plastic toy that she had in her mouth. I didn't think anything of it, but she was crying, so my wife wanted to go to the hospital. Stupid us didn't know about urgent care, so we went to the hospital at 8pm and they sent us to the ER. I told them I didn't think it was a big deal, but they pushed us to see a doctor and get an X-Ray. I'm so pissed. Those stupid nurses could have just told us it was no big deal. But they kept saying they need to diagnose. That's this stupid country. Any other country would have just told us to go home and come back the next day if the child has a problem.

ER Visit
Amount: $15,106.37
Posted by: Kat in GP in Grand Prairie, TX.Posted: April 29th, 2016 07:04AM
Medical Center: Medical Center of ArlingtonCondition: Kidney Stone & UTI
Tests or Treatment Required: Blood Work, Urinalysis, CT-Scan, IV
Went to ER with severe pain (knowing it was possibly kidney stone). Soon as I get there, no waiting taken to room. Give nurse my symptoms & about that time doc walks in and says sounds like it's a kidney stone. They take blood, set me up with an IV and give me pain med. Shortly after off to CT scan and when I get back ask for urine sample. Just got a bill today (almost 5 months later) on how much is due............now, the care was great, but it wasn't worth $15,106. The bill also reflects a $13,444.67 uninsured discount. The charges are ridiculous!

North Central Baptist ER San Antonio, TX
Amount: $2,290.00
Posted by: April N in San Antonio, TX.Posted: April 8th, 2016 10:04AM
Medical Center: North Central BaptistCondition: Asthma attack
Tests or Treatment Required: Breathing treatment, liquid steriods
My 4 year old had an asthma attack and his pulse/oxygen rate was 90. They had to put him on a breathing treatment/albuterol for a couple of hours plus give him liquid steroids. We were at the ER for a few hours. We DO have insurance but we're on a high deductible plan. Out of $4,471 our insurance is covering $2,181, so we are left to pay $2,290 WITH insurance! Also, we haven't even received the bill from the doctor so that will be an additional cost! This seems outrageous to me. Has anyone experienced such high charges with insurance?

Medical Center: Citrus Park ERCondition: High fever for baby

I faced a same problem with an ER service in Tampa,FL,the facility/ER room was in network however the doctor was out of network,so the insurance didn't pay me and was billed $2000,this is a pain as there are lot of nitty gritty attached with this.
I tried with one company PatientSaver.com and they negotiated on my behalf with the hospital and insurance company and they discounted the entire $2000
