Child was just fine and of course ER did not divulge costs before . Child had a quick visual inspection, use of flashlight into eyes. No other equipment was used. HBP with no previous history
Amount: $1,166.00
Posted by: Dls630 in Cape May Court House, NJ.Posted: September 6th, 2019 04:09PM
Medical Center: Cape Regional Medical CenterCondition: HBP no previous history
Tests or Treatment Required: None
I went to the ER with an isolated incidence of extreme HBP after my PCP had not returned my call. Checked in, triage nurse took vitals, sat in waiting room. My PCP returned my call while I was waiting and his staff made an appointment to come right to their office. I notified the triage nurse I was leaving to go to my PCP’s office for an appointment. I did not seen a doctor, nurse practitioner, or PA and was billed $1,166.00. I didn’t think a nurse could submit a claim with a diagnosis code for payment of a claim and I didn’t think I should be billed without seeing a doctor, NP, or PA.

1600 for walk-in to Urgent Care in CO and 20 mins of them making fun of me
Amount: $1,600.00
Posted by: Walk In, No Treatment, 1600$!! in Colorado Springs, CO.Posted: August 21st, 2019 06:08AM
Medical Center: UC Health CO Urgent CareCondition: STABLE
Tests or Treatment Required: NONE
On TDY needed Urgent Care center that was open 24 hrs b/c I woke up choking one morning and couldn't breath; I felt like something was blocking my throat and I had to keep clearing it... The closest one found was in a shopping center. When I walked, receptionist told me was an ER; did I realize I was walking in to an ER and that most patients didn't understand; and most insurances would not cover the 800$ visit. Well I needed help so I said ok... there was absolutely no other soul anywhere in the "ER" or outside of it... just myself and the staff... the nurse comes in and does her thing taking vitals and laughing at me because she said I was overreacting; it was just the altitude... then the doctor came in and he too pretty laughed while listening to my heart, and looking down my throat. Said I must have allergies, was open mouth sleeper, and with the dry altitude of CO my ulva was swollen. Nothing given, no tests, nothing. I paid 827$; turned over to collection now for another 827$!

ER Bad Experience Like The Others
Amount: $10,000.00
Posted by: Common Sense in Everywhere, Other.Posted: August 4th, 2019 04:08AM
Medical Center: HospitalCondition: Flu
Tests or Treatment Required: None
I went to the ER when I got the flu, or I think the flu. Had a fever and felt unwell. I waited forever and the doctor only talked to me for a few minutes. They treated me like this was a place for emergencies and made it seem like their job was to make sure I wasn't dying (and if I were dying try to prevent that) not the expectation I had that my discomfort was an emergency. Then they had the audacity to charge me a large amount of money for the time I spent there, the time the nurses spent with me, the time for records to be created and entered, the cleaning of the room I just coughed all over.. I mean, it is almost as if ER visits are expensive and alternatives for minor problems that everyone suffers exists. Next time I go to the ER (I refuse to go to urgent care/physicians because I want to be perfect immediately) I will update with another complaint.
-Sincerely all the people that child safety caps kept alive in to adulthood.

Suspected Kidney Stone - Severe Pain
Amount: $5,792.00
Posted by: Dayton Ohio Resident in Dayton, OH.Posted: June 14th, 2019 03:06PM
Medical Center: Miami Valley HospitalCondition: Severe Flank Pain - possibl kidney stone
Tests or Treatment Required: CT scan of abdomen, IV pain reliever
Cost of $5,792 was for ER only. I was charged several hundred more in separate bills from a doctors' group and radiologist.
Went with severe flank pain and explained I thought it might be a kidney stone. I was billed for a Level 4 (high) visit, but was not given priority in the waiting room. A couple practically making out in the waiting room was called back before I was, even though I was pacing in pain and even sobbing in front of my young child because the pain was so intense. Also, the nurse who hooked me up to the blood pressure machine was either uncaring or incompetent. She left the cuff on me for several cycles because she couldn't get an accurate reading. I had broken capillaries in my arm afterward.
Turned out I did not have a kidney stone. I'm now seeing a chiropractor who adjusts my lower back for $55 per visit.

1 puncture wound from dog bite
Amount: $1,700.00
Posted by: lost job/no insurance in Charlotte, NC.Posted: May 26th, 2019 07:05AM
Tests or Treatment Required: none
I had inflamed/infected single puncture wound from dog bite. I knew I needed an antibiotic and possibly an ultrasound and I did not have insurance. I called ER and asked about discounts after explaining that I did not have insurance and had not worked in a month.
Filled out short medical history which revealed no health issues. My BP was taken and I was weighed. Nurse practitioner looked at it and asked if i had a fever which I replied, "No". She said it did not need an ultrasound but if it did not get better I should return.
Total time with nurse practition 1-2min. or less..Given Rx for antibiotic and Motrin. Charged $75.00. I expressed my gratitude. I was given information about other clinics with my Rx. (could have given me that when I called)
Later, I got a bill from nurse practitioner for $514.00 and bill from ER for $1100.00 (discounted by $1250.00 so it would have been $2350.00 and total for ER and NP would have been $2864.00)
My total with discount was $1654. SAD!

Medical Center: ProvidenceCondition: Severe neck spasm
Tests or Treatment Required: None
Went to Urgent care for sore neck and headache. Told me to take Ibuprofen at home. A few days later my neck was in such a severe spasm that I couldn’t sleep. Went to ER at 2am. Took my BP. Dr came in and asked a few questions. Probably spent about 1 minute talking to me. Didn’t touch me or ask me to do anything. Literally just sat at the foot of the bed talking. Said the nurse would come give me a shot and that I should go see my Primary. Bill came for just under $1500 of which the shot was less than $100. Insurance hardly paid anything leaving me with a $1005 bill for a 1 min chat and a shot in my arm!

Medical Center: Temecula Valley Hospital (UHS)Condition: Dehydration (minor severity)
Tests or Treatment Required: 3 min MD, Simple Standard Blood Test, IV
15 y/o daughter, plays volleyball. Didn’t drink water all day at school. Migraine headache. 3 minutes with MD to diagnose as dehydration. Pulled 1 vile of blood and ran simple diagnostic drug test to confirm someone at school did not try to slip her a drug (she was not acting like herself due to dehydration symptoms at the time so we did not know for sure what the cause was, so dad requested out of caution). IV (1 bag of sodium chloride that cost under $5.00) administrated by RN (5 minutes to set up and meddle stick her arm). Boom she was back to normal. Same simple treatment one can get after hard night drinking on the Las Vegas strip for a few hundred dollars retail to avoid the hangover next day... Hospital does same procedure = priceless!!!! (Sent billed amount $8,048.00 and Blue Shield of CA allowed $3,680.00 which is patient responsibility since HDHP deductible not yet met. Have grievance filed and IMR Independent Medical Review plus CA Dept of Managed Care complaint

Medical Center: Garden City HospitalCondition: Flu
Tests or Treatment Required: Chest X-ray, IV fluids, steroids and bre
Couldn’t stand headache pain when I caught the flu in March 2019. Threw up pain relievers, couldn’t eat or drink. After 5 hours of pain decided to hit ER. Got in right away, treated appropriately but pain not managed due to opioid issues. Steroids and Tylenol is all they would do. Spent less than 2 hours in ER....$5900!!!
I had 2 c sections that cost less and I was able to stay the night. Crazy!!
