Dental Implants Cost - Buyer Experiences and Price Information

STAY AWAY FROM UMDNJ. I HAD AN UNNECESSARY BONE GRAFT AND LOST MONEY AND 2 YEARS OF MY LIFE WAITING. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL SURGERY, PROSTHODONTICS, ORTHODONTICS DEPARTMENTS. THEY WON'T ADMIT WRONGDOING AND REFUSE TO TREAT ME. I'M SUING FOR LOST MONEY AND DAMAGES.

I recieved treatment for all of my teeth. Including 12 fillings, 3 root canals, 3 crowns, 2 Implants, 2 custom abutments, 6 crown veneers, and Multiple Deep Cleanings at 225.00 each. The craziest parts were the abutments, and implants, and crowns. It seems these things are made of precious metals from outer space. I have no insurance and was advised even if i had coverage this was cosmetic and would not be covered. Each of the crown veneers, implants and abutments cost 1200 dollars. I was also amazed that for the dentist to be in my mouth for a cleaning for 1 full hour costing 225, the same time frame for implant surgery was 9200. A bit bloated i feel considering i have a business and no matter what service i perform i am only allowed to charge 1 hourly fee. I need to go back to dental school. Its all in the name of a perfect smile though.

!st Step: Extraction of #19 Molar, placement of socket preservation membrane, after granular cyst was dicovered by X-ray on the root of the root canaled and crowned molar, which lasted about 10 years. $750 (of which $410 was for anesthesia). 2nd Step: (6 months later) Implant screw placed in jaw bone. Did this step awake in order to save $410 cost of anesthesia. If you can handle sights and sounds, I would recommend doing this awake. I had no regrets afterwards from doing it this way. It's safer and painless under local anesthesia only. $1595. 3rd Step: (4 months later) Temporary abutment placed under local anesthesia only. $450. 4th Step: (2-4 weeks later), place permanent post and set temporary crown and take mold for permanent crown....5th Step: (A week or so later), permanent crown put in. $1200 No insurance....doesn't cover it anyway but look into CARECREDIT. Reasonable payment terms and rates. $750+$1595+$450+$1200=$3995 (Remember to save the anesthesia cost, approx. $410, in step 2, if you can handle it. Hope this helps....Good luck to all!

Just got this quote today. I had gotten a root canal a little over 2 years ago, $1100. The tooth cracked all the way into the root(never got a crown put on).
$2500 includes removing the tooth, implant, and crown.
Thinking about shopping around but based on what others are paying it seems very reasonable.

Totally blown away that a crown is $900 and the silly post is $950! That after spending $3800 for the actual implant!!! No wonder people don't go to the dentist!!!!

it cost me about 5,700 for two implants for my missing lateral incisors and 2 crowns, which were porcelain fused to metal, cost about 2k. Which is rough on the surface, but i had a complicated situation seeing as they had to use 20mm long implants to work and a bone graph to fix my gumline. expensive but well worth it for a long lifetime of eating and smiling ahead. i was only 17 when i had the work done

When I was considering an implant (to replace a tooth that needn't have been pulled - but that's another long story), I got a price of $1,950 from the oral surgeon. He told me that didn't include cost of the crown -so I called my family dentist and got an estimate of $500 out of pocket. My insurance will cover the crown but not the implant itself. I later found out I'd have to have a bone graft/sinus graft. That cost $900. After my healing cap was put in I went to my dentist and I spent only 20 minutes in the chair where he took off the healing cap, put something else in (perhaps a post), took an impression, took out the post and put the healing cap back on. When I went to the desk to pay, I was told it would be $1,750. I was completely shocked. No one told me that this part would be a big deal or such and expense. And it is not covered by insurance either. That took 20 minutes, mind you. I now still have to get the crown next week which obviously is an additional expense. I'm thinking out of pocket about $500. All together, one tooth (extraction and removal of cyst was $800)has cost about $6,000. If I would have known I would have gotten a bridge. Not only would it have been cheaper, I would have had it 2 years ago instead of this long drawn out process.

I had the tooth removed an I don't mind not having a replacement. Dentist wants to charge $2000. Is it worth it? Will something happen, if I don't get an implant? Thanks!!

2300 for implant only. 150 for an x-ray that MAY be covered by insurance. Does not include crown. I do not remember the cost of extraction, I think SOME was covered. I recommend getting pre-approvals for all and any dental work when possible.

Still minor on and off pain about 5 days after

Unbelievable cost for a tooth extraction,$300, and a minute amount of bone implant powder for an additional $500. The quoted post implant cost with abutment is $2,700. Oh yeah, still must pay my primary dentist $1300 for a crown. I see an approximate $4,800 total.... I can't believe that there is no pricing control in the dental industry. It is pittiful that those with $$$$ can have a healthy oral state compared to those with less $$

After a 12 hour day at an Smile Implant Center I had terrible pain for two weeks

I need a post and crown onr the 3rd tooth from the back upper left side, and an implant on the 2nd toothe from the back upper right side. I live in Buford Ga. Can anyone tell me what is the best insurance coverage.

To Garth53 in Hamilton, NJ. Look at my post which directly preceeds yours. I highly recommend UMDNJ. It will be a bit of a trip for you but well worth it. I have been in treatment for a while and should be done in about four months ( 4/2010 )

I am only 50 years young, yet I need to know if having arthritis and getting implants can or will possibly cause problems for me, I need top and bottom implants, since I have a top denture and eight on bottom, however this may need to be done. I am really concerns about this process back firing on me due to my arthritic history. I have no dental coverage, so if any one can recommend a good insurance to get please do.

I need to have 8 upper teeth (now dentures) replaced by implants and being quoted $30,000. I did not ask if crowns are included. I live in NJ and don't have the money. Should I try the UMDMJ as I hear they might do it for much less?

Wanted to let you all know, you don't have to go to Mexico to get quality dental restorations at a reasonable price. Pay a visit to your nearest University Dental School. My story began on March 9, 1974 when I sustained significant oral damage as a result of an automobile accident. I had complete restoration at that time with a combination of bridges and caps for a total cost of $25,000. Because the problems were caused by the auto accident, the insurance companies covered everything that time. Over the years I have spent an additional $20,000 (not covered by any insurance) repairing and replacing portions of the original work due to the deterioration of the underlying teeth. In 2007 the original work finally failed completely and the remaining teeth had to be removed. Dentures are simply not an option for me so I looked into implants. If you live in New Jersey - Please make a point to investigate the services offered by the University of Medicine and Dentistry. I needed several surgeries to correct a lower tarsus, remove eight infected teeth,(three were impacted), two bone grafts, thirteen implants and twenty eight crowns as well as debridging of the remaining teeth. I opted for a hybrid, fixed appliance. I am still in treatment and hope to be completed within the next six months. Every dentist I consulted quoted up to $75,000 for all that needed to be done. Needless to say since none of this is covered by insurance, $75,000 was not an option. UMDNJ has done everything, surgeries, anesthesia, etc. for just under $20,000. (There was one additional $256 expense for the sinus cavity CAT scan) You are provided a complete review and consultation, full explanation of options and a copy of your treatment plan upon request. They require payment as you go. Generally you have to pay for each procedure before it is performed. My experience with them has been excellent and the work so far has been the best.

This implant fiasco is a very serious and stunning statement on the lack of personal and business ethics in the dental profession I'd say. Most Americans "trust" their dentist like they do the medical field and their doctors. I am a professional woman with a MBA, same amount of expense and years of commitment to education as a dentist. You tell me where in business someone makes a thousand dollars or more an hour.... maybe Goldman Sachs' President but not normal business people.

The good news is that the economy sucks, and if those of us who will take the time to really see what these dentists are all about, I bet we will find that their "prices" are negotiable by 50%. Very few people in today's financial world will be willing to spend $30 to $60K on implants? We don't know if Obama is going to increase our taxes by double, if the dollar is going to dive, if anyone's retirement is going to be worth half etc.etc.

Rise up.... take that "fee" consultation, and negotiate, negotiate, negotiate. I need full upper except eyeteeth, but I refuse to pay anyone more than $200/$300 per hour. Soooo.... I'll let you know how I do.

I am a young 87 year old. I had two implants put my lower jaw and a plate in stalled. My uppers were also reolaced with a plate (no implants). It was saticfactory for a year but now I feel that I need implants, that will be perminent, for the whole mouth. I do not have insurance. I would want to know if at this age is that the right way to go.

1800 per implant 550 for bone graft, 375 per extraction, around 5300 for two post/crowns for implants and "flipper" to cover missing teeth for 10 -12 months. I max out at 2700 in insurance.

I'm in the middle of the process, waiting 5 months to see if bone graft goes well.

There are two dental surgeons that have "specials" down this way (lower westchester county, ny). They will put the implant in for $595, but you still have to get all the other items done (i don't know what the cost is). I asked my dentist about this and he wouldn't recommend tham. He sent me to one surgeon who was going to charge 2050 for each implant and 425 per extraction, when I said this was a little expensive, he sent me to another place and I saved about $600 , better than nothing.

The anesthetic they use nowadays is great, hurt for two seconds because of needle and then after that and several other injections, didn't feel a thing (extractions and stitches). Started the extraction about 15 seconds after injections. Sore for two days.

I just had the surgery for a single molar implant. 1,000 was covered by insurance and I payed 1,000 using my flexable spending account set up with my insurance.

I still need to get the post and cap done in a few months, but by then it will be a new year and my insurance will start over. I will set up another flexable spending account in the new year to cover any additional costs.

$80.000+ full implant costs for all teeth, .......ridiculous scurilous,almost crminal, what to do? cash in my 401k which is about $20,000 worth and give it to a chinese dentist in china,what the hell is wrong with this country......could it be GEEED? the chinese are even getting our retirement money ....something is reslly really wrong

Got the diagnosis Dec.4 that 31 has vertical crack as determined by a narrow pocket allowing an explorer to slide all the waaaayyyy down the side of the tooth making me jump out of the chair. I'd been having unexplained gingival issues and thought I had a ppocorn kernel ro other debris jammed between tooth and irritated.

But, this diagnosis was devastating to me at the moment, for I'd hoped on just having a second root canal, as there was a small halo around apex. Very sad and emotional to get bad news for tooth loss and invasive procedure to restore function to 31 void after years of restorations since single-digit ages, and am now 47. I've done excellent daily hygiene, no chewy foods or hard candies or crunching ice--brushing several times a day with a soft brush at the first feeling of plaque on the teeth. But, there's no avoiding fate, genetics, time, pressure, an old root canal and crown, and microscopic, anaerobic bacteria.

With all I've read here, I just may have this tooth extracted, which I hate to lose believe me, as I am not willing to put myself through pain and expense (am a high school teacher with pitiful state dental insurance)of what all you are reporting. I realize I am risking tooth shifting and occusal problems, but after all, it's way in the back, and I don't smile that wide anyway.

On Dec. 4 I was largely convinced I would have this procedure, but now am not so gung-ho. I have contacted the Medical College of Ga for a consultation with their graduate school of dentistry for this having this advanced procedure done at a significantly reduced rate, but waiting list is five months long. So, I buy myself some time to educate and ponder.

I was quoted $2,500 for each implant by my periodontist for each implant including the abutment and crown. I found a dentist in Phoenix, AZ that does the whole thing for $1,499.00 each. I contacted the American Dental Association and the AZ Dental Association; his credentials are good and there were no complaints. I had the four implants put in place yesterday, December 4th without a problem and depending on whow the healing occurs I will be getting the crowns some time in March/April, 2010. Each implant was $799 and the abutment and crown is an additional $700. I am very happy!!!

still have a baby tooth, and possibly an impacted tooth eye tooth on left side of upper mouth. Don't really have much money, considering options...looking for guidence...I'm a graduate student and can't imagine giving presentations with a missing tooth. Open for suggestions.

i'm 72, and have been going to a dentist, most of my life. Some people just have poor teeth. Been with my present dentist over 30 yrs., like his work and manner. yesterday, a tooth, that was an anchor for a partial, fell out-its very noticeable, tomorrow, Monday, i will call the dentist. At this point, considering dental implant. Does anyone have Delta Dental Ins., saw no comments about them-do know if i am admitted to a hospital, my health insurance, will cover same.

I can not believe some of the prices people are paying and how long some of these implant procedures are taking. Tanya long DMD (my wife) owns 4th Street Dental Spa in louisville Kentucky and if she charged these kind of prices we could retire in a year. We routinely do single tooth implants complete with crown and post for $1295 and have done several full mouth reconstructions for a fraction of the cost on here. The highest treatment plan I could even put together throwing in everything but the kitchen sink couldn't possibly be more than $25000 for complete full mouth rehabilitation with implants,bone grafting, sinus lift, crowns, ect,ect. If you've got $60000.00 to spend on your teeth give me a call and we will fly you here replace them all and give you a new car to drive home in!

I was in Louisville, KY earlier this year when the tv ad came on. Full implants, entire mouth redone, 10k. I live in Fl. so looked for a closer dentist who told me, oh no, that would cost about 60K- not all veneers and implant materials are of the same category. Any comments? Is it the dr. drives a beemer rather than a buick? My uncle, the dentist, made much more money than my grandfather,the judge/lawyer. That I know. Kids remember adult conversations even 20 yrs. later.
